They always had two guys who can really rebound yet also play up and down. They compensated for being small by playing shawn Marion at 4 instead of 5 and when Stoudemire was hurt Diaw was able to elevate his game and bring in very solid rebounding and post work. If we eliminate Randolph and Curry---please tell me who is going to get the rebounds and be our primary post? David Lee is a good player but he is not half of what Stoudemire is on the offensive side-- and IF we do get rid of Curry Randolph the rebounding is going to have to come from a different option. Chandler can get some for sure--maybe they play him in the same small 4 position as Marion since he can grab 10 rebounds at times but still that leaves the club light upfront.

I agree we're light in that area (since I don't want ZBo here at all and I'd only entertain Curry as a half-game player) - that's why I'd really like Anthony Randolph if we can't get DRose or Bayless in the draft.

I see our new top 5 board as Rose Beasley Mayo Randolph Bayless --I think for our new team direction the level jumps way down after that.

luckily one of those five will be available when we pick, most likely.

you really put Mayo ahead of Randolph and Bayless? I haven't seen him play enough, I guess.

I was thinking that if we got the #1 pick, D'Antoni might push for Beasley over Rose. Beasley would fill that Amare role in the offense, at least.

curry and Z ain't going anywhere for at least two more years. No one wants their contracts and why buy them out now? I'm really interested in seeing how this team responds to the incoming coach. D's gonna separate the mice from men right off the bat. Let's just keep rotating the big men for now. The bulls used to do that when they had jordan on their team. That part seemed to work very well for them, except we don't have a jordan on our team.

Non of the three bigs, curry, z or Morris can block worth a damn, let alone play defense. But I think a lot of rotating in and out all game long will produce some interesting results. These guys are too stationary and need to move and rest, move and rest. Make-em earn it, keep em active and keep them awake each game. Especially if this team is going to be playing a D'Antoni style game.

The problem with these Knicks is 'they never been put through boot camp'.
I'll never trust this' team again.

I really don't think both Curry and Randolph will be here next season. Somehow, I think they'll ditch one of the two.

why bother even considering Curry on the rebounding topic? D Lee's every bit as good a rebounder as Zach IMO... you could gain any rebounding lost by not playing Curry by playing Chandler more minutes at the 3 over Q.

also don't see the point in comparing our roster to the Suns, it's obvious there is no comparison in terms of talent... we're trying to change the culture & establish an identity first... let's keep the comparisons to a minimum until we see how these guys can assimilate into D'Antoni's coaching style.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

briggs- the other thing to note is they had a lot of role players who excelled in his system. yes, part of it was nash- but clearly D had a lot of input in who they got, and once they got there, he maxxed out their games.

if we were able to land the top pick, we might be set. we have some guys like lee, crawford, chandler & balkman that might thrive in his system.

Briggs you arent going to fix this team in one year. Give him three years to put a team together. Get the best available guard this year, and sign a MLE to a player that fits into his system. Next year try and find a big in the draft that can fit this style. 2010 comes around and then we hope to get a Wade or someone that can be an impact player. Now the Knicks can implement a plan and make the team attractive for a free agent in 2010.

I think it would be wise to draft players built for speed and the system. If I come out of the draft with Michael Beasley or Randolph--I think we accomplished a major goal. I think the 5 guys up there pretty much fit the bill for the team? If we were at 6-7 and these 5 guys were off the board I would take Lopez 6 and Westbrook 7.

You are going to see a lot of our forwards in D'Antoni's rotation early in the season. I can see DLee, The Mayor, The Balkster and (gulp) JJSkinny getting a lot of burn at the frontline(SF/PF/C). We are going to be running and gunning with Special Nate, Crawford and Mardy(yup that Mardy) leading the backcourt. I am hoping we treat Dinglebury like Employee#8 and tell him to stay away and just collect his paycheck. Curry and ZBo will be dumped for expiring contracts to all these playoff teams needing a low post pressence. Cleveland, Dallas, Philly and even Miami. Almost forgot, Stern will perform Ewing part deux and reward us with either the #1 or #2 pick.

Then I woke up.

Briggs do you think Augustin could run the system? I am going to buy off with you on Randolph. Lets trade down get Randolph and hope it is a home run. I dont think physically he will be ready next year but we will suck anyway. I dont think Lopez would be any good in this system. Laugh all you want but EG will have good workouts and be tough to pass up.

Augustin could definitely run the system well. I think he's getting a bad rap on this board.

I think he's a lot like Terrell Brandon.

let's put it this way...I think Augustin is better than Conley (last year's # 4). I think he's better b/c he can shoot.

I think Jefferies will benefit from this move as well, which is important because we need to utilize everyones skills (he doesn't have many) but the thing with defining roles is that it gives players and idea of what's expected from them. And Lets be honest look at the East (Howard, Wallace, Garnett, Haslem, Okafur, Bosh, Horford) there really aren't a lot of physical big men.

Crawford/Marbury
Q/Nate
Chandler/Balkman
Jefferies
Lee

Your going to see guys get in better shape come in ready to play, that lineup isn't great but the team does have guys that can run. And a trade will be made, we will add a good player in the draft and we will see what happens with curry and zach

Exactly, no contract is really untradable, it's what you get in return and since the knicks are more concern with 2010 FA there more likely will be a yard sale and a very good draft pick.

I understand Randolph's value as a rebounder, he is quite effective on the glass... but Curry has been a rebounding bust. For a guy that big to only get about 6 rebounds a game is an embarrassment... will not miss seeing Curry in the lane.
