It's not what I want. It's not what I think would be the best idea. It's not even something that would happen or would make sense for all involved. It's just something I thought *could* happen if DAntoni were to be hired.

Let's say DAntoni gets hired. Knicks then decide to continue "rebuild on the fly" keeping with the idea that recycling expirings into "new talent" might just be the "final piece" to make it all work.

Marbury + ?(kids) = Shawn Marion
Malik + Curry + ?(kids) = Jermaine ONeal
08 Pick = Rose(w/ luck), Mayo?, other PG?

HC-Dantoni

C-Jermaine ONeal
F-Zach Randolph
F-Shawn Marion
G-Jamawful Crawful
G-08 pick

******************

Could you see it? I could from a Knick perspective.
Would it work? Who knows.
Would YOU do it? I still stand by tearing the roster down as the best idea here.

Thoughts? (Aside from "Miami wont do that" or "Indy wont do that" or "we're not hiring DAntoni" ... etc...)

Since we are speculating about D'Antoni. I think he is going to be a great fit for the Knicks. This guy will get the most out of the current players the Knicks have, he will give the young player the direction they have been lacking. Players like Chandler, Balkman, Lee will thrive in his system. Add Crawford and Nate to the system and they might play at a higher level with a running system implemented by D'Antoni. This years rookie will also benefit from a D'antoni system as he will be the player that D'Antoni will want.

I think the KNicks need D'Antoni more than D'Antoni needs them espeially with the current roster that the KNicks are stuck with.

^LOL is all that needs to be said. I spend enough time arguing for that to just warrant an LOL, especially the part where we desperately need D'Antoni.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Dantoni is using the knicks as leverage to get more money out of chicago or the suns - his style does not fit this roster and he would be retarded to come here and add this $%^&show to his resume.

the absolute best case scenario is they get to draft derrick rose to run d'antoni's offense. this whole rebuild on the fly stuff, i just don't buy it, walsh said it'll take 2 yrs and i dont think that timetable should necessarily change just b/c of the coach.

i still just can't see d'antoni coming here. too many variables and ? marks.

Yeah, I'd feel the same way if that occurred. Just wondering how some on here would feel of such a potential path. "some" being those who still believe in this core and that all it needs is "the right coach" and "the right trade" to make it all work.

As to needing or not needing DAntoni - well - we need a new coach, we need a good coach, especially if management's mandate is to keep trying to win regardless of the state of the roster. As to whether or not this is all client leverage, its a distinct possibility, but that wasn't what I was looking at when making this topic.

I tried to come up with a path that this franchise might take if they did hire DAntoni and tried to continue the "win now" philosophy.

So I figured given that possibility - the scenerio I outlined might be a realistic attempt by this franchise to do that - and if they did - would it work?

IMO...only half way. It certainly wouldn't lead to title contention but in the short term, especially given the state of the east this past season, would put us back in the playoff race - good or bad.

We need a coach with experience I don't mind a new coach coming in here as long as he has a good track record as being a coach or an assistant coach. D'Antoni, Avery Johnson, Thibodeau I'm cool with these guys but I am not ok with Mark Jackson. To me hiring Jackson is basically f'ing around with the Knicks again. If the goal is to have young players and develop young players then you need to have a coach here that has a record of being able to develop them. The young player require direction a system to play in and they need to have solid coaching in place, plays need to be executed they need to be tought to execute a game plan. These are thing Mark Jackson hasn't dealt with on any level. What this lack of game planning does is it hinders the young players development on the court because solid plays aren't run which leads to arrested development on the young players part.

You want to give the young players optimal conditions to grow into solid players, to be in a system is the most improtant thing you can give a player. whether it is defense oriented or offense oriented. As long as a system is in place then players are given the necessary direction.
