i pose this here b/c i am curious to your thoughts...
let's say you have a shooter like jason kapono. he's basically the best pure jumpshooter in the league. he hits at over 50% on jumpers and 46% on 3's. he scores at a better clip than alot of pf/c's in the league.
yet he's never averaged over 8 shots a game. i will say that whether he takes 5 shots or 12 shots, he still shoots the same %.
07/08 (18 games): 52 fg% (110-212), 46 3fg% (29-63)
06/07 (24 games): 52 fg% (154-294), 53 3fg% (60-114) *missed 15 games
the guy can't create his own shot. he can't slash or take it to the hole. he can't post up. but he's the best at catching and shooting.
if you were a coach, would you design more plays for him almost to the point where he's 2nd or 3rd in fga's for the team? or would you still use him in an opportunistic role if option 1/2/3 are not available?

I would definitely try and set more screens for the guy on the perimeter and see if he can curl off them, maybe some more plays in the offense that involve some motion and ball movement so you can swing it around to him, maybe some more drive and kick as well. Guys like Kapono are hard to find, they aren't flashy but they always seem to get the job done, yet teams never capitalize on their abilities.
This happens alot in the NBA and I feel it's because there just aren't that many good coaches in the league.
