Glad Donnie is naming Jackson. Mark Jackson is well-respected around the league and many seem to think he will make an excellent head coach. This team is going nowhere for the next few years, so Jax will have the opportunity to learn the ropes and show Donnie and all the fans whether or not he can coach in this league.
Good job, Donnie.

I'd prefer Thibodeau, but obviously he's busy right now (especially considering how bad the C's looked in Round 1), but we have nothing to lose bringing him in anyway.
He should slap the taste out of Jerome James' mouth and take his number back.

Why do people always follow up repeatedly with "Well I'd prefer so and so"?
Look we all want the best possible candidate it's a no brainer but more importantly we need someone in place who has some credibility and we have that now.
When we hired Walsh we keep hearing and even to this day "Well I'd rather have Colangelo" now that we hired Mark it's "Well I'd rather have Avery Johnson or Thibodeau".
Just be glad we're filling positions with quality people.

This would be a good move for a rebuilding team. An established coach, coming from a winning team, probably wouldn't want to go through a complete roster overhaul where lots of losses are pretty much guaranteed.
An inexperienced coach can come in and learn on the job, with no pressure to win now. He can grow with the team and if he doesn't work out, they can always hire an established coach when the team is rebuilt and ready to start competing.
I really didn't want D'Antoni or Avery and I think Thibodeau is the type that makes a much better top assistant than head coach. I'd love to see him come to NY and be Jackson's top assistant, I think they would make a great team. Jackson will definitely need at least 1 very good X's and O's coach though. What's Dick Harter doing nowadays?

What other coach outside of NY's own Larry Brown could be a better fit than NY'S own son Mark (action) Jackson.
The pride of NY can only be "RESTORED" and reverenced by one of it's own whether a player or Native.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

As well he should. I'd be disappointed if they won more than 23 games next year.

You think Mark will ask JVG to be his top assistant? They are close and JVG might give him a couple of years as asst coach to help him out. Then hire Pat and Herb. We are set to go.

Might as well hire Allan, Spree, LJ and Ward to be our assistants too!

player development is key here for the next 2 years. in this regard, donnie walsh is putting on a blindfold and throwing darts...

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Aint no shame in JVG coming in to be the assistant.....brian hill, and a list of other former head coaches fell back and became assistants.....**** that could work. I always though JVG was an assistant. Let Jeff worry about scouting reports and being prepared cuz he loves that ****. Let Jax worry about the team on the floor.....
Not a bad idea at all.

Andrew Marchand of 1050 ESPN Radio in New York has reported that Mark Jackson will be named the next Knicks head coach within the next few days.
While we havent been able to verify this with any other sources, the general consensus is that Marchand is right. Donnie Walsh wants Jackson on the bench and Jackson wants to be on Walshs bench. Walsh interviewed Mike DAntoni in Phoenix, and now there are reports of DAntoni headed to Chicago. I guess we can gather how that interview went
I personally am a fan of this move. I would rather a guy like Tom Thibodeau but with a young team like the Knicks have, Jackson would be my second choice. The Knicks arent going anywhere fast anytime soon, so why not groom a head coach along the way? All signs point to Jax knowing his stuff, so its a risk worth taking. Stay tuned
thanks for the update. i agree with you.
i heard from a friend who works at sports illustrated last week that d'antoni had has heart set on chicago anyway.

To be fair, he threw a dart and let Larry Bird coach the Pacers and they got to the Finals.
that is true...but that was also a ready made team that didn't need the player development.
you have to trust walsh tho...if you can't trust him, then who can you trust?
wasn't sam mitchell hired in toronto with little to no experience?
and i've said this before, but a coach who can handle the media crush in ny will be valuable. and we all know jackson can handle the media crush in ny. player development is important, but that will be as much about bringing in the right people around him as it will jackson working with the players. jackson is a good hire.
