BANK SUES SPENDING SPRE
By JULIA DAHL

May 3, 2008 -- Talk about a financial foul.

Former NBA bad boy Latrell Sprewell is being sued by City National Bank for failure to pay more than $23,000 in credit-card bills, according to the Web site TMZ.com.

The former Knick, who reportedly once was paid $14.5 million a year and may be best known for attacking his Golden State Warrior coach during practice in 1997, has apparently fallen on hard times since quitting basketball.

In February, The Associated Press reported that not only had his 70-foot yacht been repossessed, but he was in danger of losing his Milwaukee home to foreclosure as well. He owed $1.3 million on the boat and $295,138 on the house, according to ESPN.

While his financial future may be in jeopardy, Sprewell did recently dodge a legal bullet. In February, ESPN reported that Westchester County prosecutors dropped the charges stemming from an alleged December 2006 assault on his girlfriend in front of their children.

If this guy is broke after all of the money he made, and the Sprewell rims craze, AND the generous offer he left on the table from Minny, I feel no sympathy for him. Go get a job like the rest of us.

I believe his yacht where he broke his hand ,allegedly not hitting someone in late night fight, was repossessed. He probably could still play if he got into shape.

Moral of the story: When someone offers you $9M when you are clearly past your prime, DON'T SAY NO.

It's obvious sprewell has some substance issues of some sort. Gin and Juice or something.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Man he did everything he humanly could against Duncan and Robinson. It was sad how his career turned out but i still got a soft spot for that guy. Till the day he was traded he played hard and didnt cause too much trouble save for that punch that wrecked his hand.

I'll bet he's got a former agent with some money stashed away in a Swiss bank account or something.

Dude is a classic example of pride leading to a fall. Minny made him a fair offer and instead of listening or negotiating or even just playing out his contract in good faith, both he and Cassell tanked that last year in Minny. Minny pulled its offer and everyone else in the league, after seeing what he had done, given his age, and given his past history of choking his coach, decided to lowball the guy. Rather than sucking it up and admitting he made a mistake and taking $2-$3 million to play somewhere else, he walked away from the game when he probably had not properly prepared for life after basketball. Dude could have probably made $10-$15 million more in his career.
