we should be quick to bring him in and sign him as priority 1. He's the exact type of guy we need right now--he has the experience--he's a leader--he's not going to take junk from the players--he's going to make them work. I think in Dallas'case--he kind of got a raw deal because he was against the Kidd trade and that trade killed them. It's not his fault. Other than that there is no other candidate that I can see who would be close to what he can bring to this team. He is the opposite of Isiah Thomas--he has high character he will help change the horrible culture Isiah has left the players will be held accountable for their actions--I think he would be great giving Walsh a helping hand remaking the team. He's a winner and a no-brainer

No thanks. Anybody who has lost a good team that quickly where he cancels practice and the team decides to practice without him, isn't the right fit for a rebuilding situation.

I wish the Knicks players were professional enough to do this even once during the last month of the season when Isiah kept canceling practices.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Yeah, I agree with everything you said about Johnson. I have him second on my list of coaching priorities right behind D Antoni if he is fired aswell.

As you said, he is a leader, is not afraid to get into a players face or a**, has high character, and stressed ball movement and defense. Avery will definitely let Zach know about his fade away threes, as oppose to Isiah who just sat on the bench and didn't raise an eyebrow.

It was just two years ago when Avery took a team that no one thought could ever get over the hump, into the finals. And he did it without Nash. He got that team playing respectable defense that year. A team that was known as the Allas Mavericks. Definitely take a shot at him.

I appreciate what addelman has done in houston- you look at some of their role players- guys basically we could have had if not for isiah the rotissery gm.

I think Avery's good and I don't know who cuban is going to go with if he does fire him.

I think Avery is a no-brainer. I like Thibodeau--I'm pretty sure I mentioned him first very early in this year well before the media even sniffed him for this job--BUT I did not know Avery Johnson would be available[or possibly available]

Avery Johnson nearly won the NBA championship[some could say they got jobbed] Avery Johnson nearly won 70 games two years ago Avery was not responsible for trading for J Kidd. It's a no-brainer. The guy has a .735 career coaching avg and nearly won the whole thing--he's young smart has high character hes a leader and a winner with great experience--Thibadeu is an assistant coach. I think for our team --if he becoimes available--you get him.

I'm definitely with you on this. I was cool with Mark Jackson, but I really didn't think Avery Johnson was going to see his team lose in the 1st round.

Look at the effect he had on that team. They were not a defensive team at all other than Howard, and they really became a better team. I think there may be other issues at play behind their loss.

D'Antoni, Silas & Saunders are other names being thrown around by the NY papers right now.

Correction: Those names are being thrown around by Marc Berman, a disgrace to journalists everywhere.

2 days ago it was George Karl, yesterday it was Sam Mitchell, today it was D'Antoni. Very lame.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

i'd love to have any of those guys coach this team except for Saunders... i want Marbury outta here... don't wanna have him be catered to yet again w/a coach he supposedly wants to play for... Silas isn't my cup o'tea but i'd be willing to give him a shot... don't want any part of George Karl either.

I would love to Avery Johnson. Like him better than Jackson or any other coach that is available. D' Antoni would also be good. He would need a top-notch defensive assistant coach, but his offenses are beautiful. If we got D. Rose, I would strongly consider making a move for D'Antoni and letting him groom D. Rose. Johnson or D' Antoni are the two guys we should go after.

There are some good names being mentioned and that's encouraging
D'Antoni, Jackson, Thibodeau, Mitchell, Silas and Johnson are all guys worthy of strong consideration.

Wow Fired. Well that was a classy move. Mark Steinbrenner. Walsh should jump all over this today--no doubt about it.

No thanks, his team should have won the title a couple of times and they didn't. Beside I couldn't stand the post game comment if he was the coach here.

Im on board the Avery train.

I think Cuban got what he deserved with a young team lead by a young coach and they both made mistakes. Now they are not so young and Avery not on board with Kidd. Kidd looks good with a transition team and whey you got Jeff and Vince flying down the lane you look good yourself!

The Iso game with Terry-Dirk-Howard was awful, but how you gonna break when you got no tough presence to rebound and start the break? How you gonna stop the perimeter game with kidd? lose your quickest defender in Harris and see what you got.

I also believe young coaches learn from failure and Dallas has had success that lead to the disappointments.

Dirk is not the kind of leader player and come playoff time you can stop him and the Dallas machine.

Its always gotta be someones "fault" and cuban gets to lay blame on his coach. I lay blame on the roster and the circumstances. The division was tough, they made the playoffs and the Mavs are flawed.

somtimes coaches just go as far as they can go with a team and either you rebuild the team or bring in a new system.

Avery was a good hire. He was put in a tough spot his rookie year and did well. I'd put him at the top of my list.

I like Tom T, Jax, and Smitchel also.

BRIGGS, we can agree on something!!!!
Avery was amazing with the Mavs his first and 2nd year.
Mavs are a flawed, offensively talented, but soft team. Blaming them for not winning it all is like blaming the Suns; they are just not built for a championship.
You get J Kidd you've gotta run because hes not a good defender at this age and the uptempo game is his style.
Avery is a very serious man, who is going to establish some order in the organization. At this point we need a strict authoritarian, with some track record of success and he's it. I dont see a better choice out there.
