Here's a real article on the Knicks...not some fabricated garbage turned fact by the usual crew of journalists who are lost in the desert of non-information and have resorted to inventing and then writing about situations that simply do not exist:
**************************************************************** Walsh in no hurry to hire new coach Tuesday, April 29, 2008 BY STEVE ADAMEK
Donnie Walsh claimed he wouldn't hurry to hire the Knicks' next head coach and for more than a week (that seems like a month) since firing Isiah Thomas, he's been a man of his word.
His word could change, though, as the NBA's coaching carousel spins and all sorts of information from a variety of sources becomes clearer.
After interviewing the presumed favorite, Mark Jackson, last week in Phoenix, Walsh doesn't seem in a hurry to pull the trigger — although how itchy his finger may be and how far he's spread his net for other candidates isn't clear.
Celtics coach Doc Rivers, through a spokesman, said Monday that the Knicks haven't requested permission to interview Tom Thibodeau, the defensive guru and former Jeff Van Gundy aide in New York who's an assistant in Boston and thought to be on Walsh's list.
Walsh, meanwhile, is laying low, declining comment Monday on the state of his search and to whom he still might talk, already having said he'll interview assistant and two-time interim coach Herb Williams.
Jackson also hasn't returned numerous phone messages.
Yet, although Walsh could be waiting for the coaching fallout from the about-to-conclude first round of the NBA playoffs, he could find his patience tested by Chicago's pursuit of Jackson for its head coach opening. Monday's Chicago Tribune reported that the Bulls plan to talk to Jackson some time this week and also may pursue Thibodeau.
By talking to the Bulls, Jackson could be forcing the hand of the team that drafted him more than two decades ago. If Walsh wants him, the Knicks' new president may have to hire him quickly to preempt the Bulls, as Milwaukee essentially did by hiring Scott Skiles, whom Walsh hoped to interview.
Walsh also has placed a lesser priority on hiring a new general manager as his second in command, saying that Thomas' No. 2, Glen Grunwald, and his staff would remain in place through the June 26 draft.
However, New York native and broadcaster Kenny Smith said it's a "possibility" he'll talk to Walsh about the job for which, like Jackson and coaching, he has no previous experience.
Former GMs Billy King (76ers) and Rick Sund (Sonics) are considered the top candidates for that job, although Walsh said he may retain Grunwald.
The coaching staff Thomas left behind also may experience at least one defection with Larry Brown's expected hiring as Charlotte's coach. Dave Hanners, whom Brown brought from Detroit to New York, could rejoin him with the Bobcats.
Williams, who interviewed for the Charlotte job last season, again could now and also might leave to join Brown's staff as a possible heir apparent if he doesn't get the Knicks' job.
