I was just (And still am actually) talking to my friend in Charlotte about LB signing with the Bobcats, and I said that I think he'll really like Nazr Muhammad. That made me come to think that we really should have never traded this guy. We gave him up for an expensive Malik Rose, who didn't really do much to help this team, besides provide leadership (And I love the guy), just in order to get the pick that turned into David Lee. This is during an era when teams are buying picks from other teams.

What would have happened if Isiah kept Nazr and bought another pick? Well, we would have drafted Lee, probably, and we'd have a center. And because we'd have our CENTER, Isiah wouldn't have a need to give Big Fat Jerome James, and so many things just may be different by now. But they aren't.

Anyway, just wanted to vent about that for a minute. Hope I didn't bring the mood down.

Isiah was like a drowning victim- and he clearly was in over his head- because each subsequent move he made was out of desperation and made the situation worse.

Exactly. The Nazr trade to SA wasn't bad. The KVH for TT and Nazr was one of those first bad compounding trades.

To be honest only the Marbury trade made any sense at all and in big hindsight probably wasn't a good idea in the first place yet was a gamble I still believe was worth taking at the time.

Yet, just to rehash again, Marbury came in and energized the Layden role player team. I don't know why further drastic moves were made one after another. Each trade made us worse - alienating who we already had and forcing the new guy to find a new niche on the team. Absolutely nothing made sense after the Marbury trade. Nothing. Especially in hind sight (of course).

KVH > TT&Nazr
Kurt > Mo Taylor&Malik (even though that wasnt the swap, it kinda was in the end)
Marbury running wild > Marbury trying to be eric snow while Crawful ran wild.
Balkman > Jeffries
Curry/Lee starting w/ Frye off the bench >>>> Zach Randolph.

The more I think about it the more I can't believe he took situation after situation - that should have been given time to come together - and just made it worse with each successive trade!

Well, not much we can do about it but whine at this point and that doesn't really help matters.

It does underscore one thing though: We don't have many desireable players that can also play together well - and - that leads to the basic fact that the majority of this roster needs to be sent off before we can even dream about building a competent team for the future.

Bottomline is Isiah traded for Marbs......so the team should have been built aroun him. Knicks had Doleac @ center. Marbury made him look like something. KVH was playing some of his best ball as a Knick. Knicks needed to continue to build around that. That simple.

Isiah is the master of masterbation. He knows how to **** himself real good.

The Francis trade (to get him) was a real bone head move.

Balky and Reezy do about the same thing. We could have picked up DLee with the Balky pick.

The nightmare is over.

I hope.

Yeah, that's the very heart of the matter. We should have just stayed put after that one trade and given it not just the rest of the 0304 season - but the 0405 season as well - in their entireties - without taking on any "big name" or "might be a big name" players. A few small "spur-like" tweaks or additions and nothing more.

Nazr would have never done for Isiah. Isiah's formula all along, that he borrowed from Walsh, was to put some athletic pieces in place, and to try to steal an underutilized and underdeveloped bigman, ala JO, that Isiah could craft into an all-star. So Jerome James and Eddy Curry, or people like them, were an inevitability from the day Isiah was hired.

Isiah's problem, as always, was his hubris. he gave himself too much credit for the evolution of JO, who was already a quick learner and hard worker with a passion for the game, unlike Eddy. But Isiah convinced himself that if he whispered the right words into a young mans ear he could gift him with confidence, thus turning a lamb into a lion.

Hopefully if Isiah ever gets the chance to coach again (highschool, maybe?) he'll stop thinking in terms of sprinkling players with magic fairy dust, and differentiate between the guys who are underutilized and those who underachieve.

It's hard to stay put when the very first Bum you trade for doesn't get a long with the pieces you are putting around him(KVH, Kurt, TT) . I think it's comical you slam LB for his one yr here, practically nullifying his whole tenure as a professional not making any allowances for him in that maybe he should have been given a little more support you know the(a la rebuild around Marbury support staying the course to properly build around him). Maybe LB's input should have been listened to and acted upon while he was here, instead of I SAY UGH taking offense to his assessments and criticism of his trash roster. CLOWN and Marbury both had similar responses(rebelled), when they thought things weren't going well or as planned, except one kept receiving Carte Blanc, 100% support(almost til the very end) while the other became an instant enemy. Only one of them proved to be right, which was the enemy(CLOWN), Marbury was always wrong. So no, we shouldn't have stayed the course to rebuild around Marbury. We should have properly dismantled around Marbury. I also find it comical that in LB's only yr here, he's still disowned and receives about equal blame to I SAY UGH for the 2005-2006 season, but is given absolutely zero credit for the 18-20mos he spent back with the Sixers.

Here was his job responsibilities as of Jan 2007 with the Sixers
76ers name Larry Brown Executive Vice President
NewsWire | Jan. 6, 2007
Philadelphia 76ers President Billy King announced today that he has named Hall of Famer Larry Brown as Executive Vice President. In this role, Brown will primarily be responsible for assisting King and the 76ers front office and basketball operations staff in personnel decisions, as well as other special projects.

There are several things LB had input on while he was there. He was a consultant for about 3mos before he was officially hired in January

He was the driving force behind acquiring Andre Miller. LB tipped Billy King off to previous and current discussions on who he knew could be had. It comes as no coincidence he was officially hired 2 weeks after the Iverson trade. Miller, the same point guard we tried to acquire when trade discussions were going down with Denver for Jamal at the 2006 trade deadline. The only drawback at the time was Kenyon Martin's name was being tossed around in the discussions and I believe so was Francis. Jalen was on our roster at the time along with Mo Taylor. People at the time were nervous and pissed off at the idea we could potentially trade for Martin who was injured. The funny thing is now these same fans are clamoring at the idea of trading Zach for Martin even at the expense of throwing in Balkman.

He gave recommendation for the Sixers to trade for Reggie Evans another guy who was inquired of when LB was here. He tried to get Watson and Evans from Seattle probably for Jamal again. Two guys, who if for nothing else probably would have complemented Marbury's game, you know Cosmic..."we should have stayed the course and brought in the right guys around Marbury." It may have worked out to be a good trade but I SAY UGH was in protect mode with Marbury. He didn't want a player coming in here playing the position more naturally than Marbury and his pet be exposed. Watson a point guard who defends, runs an offense, and passes first before he shoots. All the rumors were believable because Jamal said at the time he heard his name being thrown out there a lot and that he was told by I SAY UGH to be ready to leave.

He assisted in their draft helping King scout Thaddeus Young, who's one of the better young upside forwards in the NBA. A player who's better than Wilson Chandler at the moment. They also picked up Jason Smith in draft day trading. Both of these guys are currently contributing to the Sixers in the playoffs against Detroit.

Now when Stefanski was hired I believe he probably was more hands off, but LB may have made some contributions in which Stefanski acknowledged when making the announcement of LB's resignation.

actually, i thought that was the best lineup during thomas' tenure: marbury, crawford, tt, nazr and thomas with wilkins coaching. the big problem that year was not supporting lenny fully throughout the year and giving marbury full riegn. we should have made the playoffs with that team and isaih thomas should have rolled out the red carpet for lenny wilkins and give him his own assitant coaches instead of undermining him. nazr was having an all star year averaging a double double. the inside outside game of kt and naz was good not to mention they played DEFENSE. tim thomas when healthy was a servicible 3. the only thing missing from the bench was a good three point specialists and a shut them down perimeter defender. but they were good enough to make the post season.

It's just freakin ridiculous how some of our fans act like a jilted girl over LB, when he really wasn't the problem. The guy was hindered as to what he wanted to accomplish here and basically poured orange juice in the cornflakes after he saw the writing on the wall. Honestly who wouldn't have done the same. I'm not going to develop this animosity because it happened to our precious Knicks on his watch. He was working in a Cesspool of horrible managing. I'm not going to put all the onus on LB because he couldn't right the wrong, especially since he was only given a half of yr of patience.

And why is it that people get so emotional over Brown? Why cant you come to grips with the fact that not only did he do a lousy job, but his selfish decision to submarine and sabotage the team did just as much to retard the development of the franchise as anything else.

LOL @ trying to act like this is the first time LB has pulled a fast one. Thats all he's known for! He'd throw his own mama under a train if he felt like there was a shiny nickel in it for him --- he might just be the most unloyal man in sporst. Its just that he plays nice with the media, so they feel compelled to cover for him.

Ah well....he blew his load at every chance he got and in the end? There was no hot chick to marry just a room full of bloated walking STD cows.

The Sixers trading Korver for Giricek

Recommending the Sixers give Cheeks a contract extension

Nice job. As a "larry lover" I do find that his whole career has been wiped away from his one year here. Thanks for laying out the tweaks made by philly the last year and a half. While Larry was not in charge, its clear he worked as part of the management.

And, no Ratcliff or Eric snow either!!!!!

I've always been one to admit I don't like how LB handled himself but I understood why. When under contract things get a little dicey and if you want to breech it, you'll do what's necessary. One thing is for sure I wouldn't want to continue working here after I got a chance to see first hand how bad it was. I don't label LB as some incompetent basketball mind from what transpired here. You do realize this was his only bad stop even throughout his history of supposed sabatoging. Why does he keep getting hired if he's such a CLOWN? If you bash LB for what he did here ok it's all good, but don't transcend this to his next stop because as we saw in Philly it proved to be false. He was a bad fit here because we are/were a poorly ran franchise, this would have been the case for any coach.

Oh, LB is far from a clown. No doubt, he's a hall of fame coach. Its just that he is extremely disloyal and will put his own agenda above the welfare of anyone else. There hasnt been a job he's secured where he didnt leave ungracefully.

Most of what you say is fine, I just dont get why people dont hit LB with blasts like "snake" and "con man".

If that what gets some through the day ok. Begs to question why he was even hired in the first place. Begs to question why he keeps getting hired if he's so disloyal. I bet most didn't think that of him or at least want to when he was first hired. I actually feel he could have been classified as a bigger snake at other stops. The guy wanted to continue working here it was his dream job, he just didn't want to put up with the BS. Even throughout it all I SAY UGH couldn't better the CLOWN, SNAKE, CON-MAN.

I guess the theory as to why LB keeps getting hired is similar to why someone would enter a relationship with someone who is fine as hell, but is a known cheater or head case. You enter knowing how the script is going to end (or delusional enough to think you can change him or her), but at least you're secure in the knowledge that the ride will be fun while it lasts.

We didnt even get the g-damn ride!!!

No, it's freakin ridiculous how you label people who took umbrage to how Larry Clown conducted himself here in New York and try to do anything you can to vindicate him of a poor showing - even if it means assuming he's responsible for Philly's turnaround when he probably had no more than a little insight into the matter.

It's also ridiculous that you pretend that people slam Larry for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I'm not going over this crap in detail, again, with Larry Brown Lovers, so I'll do it as concisely as possible.

Larry was hired to coach, not GM, not create fights between himself and players, not try to drive a wedge between players he liked and he disliked, not try to drive a wedge between players he disliked and upper management - all in a more than obvious scheme to be acting GM and getting the whole roster cleaned out - or get the GM fired and hope the owner buys his bullcrap and gives him full power.

That's exactly what Clown did and he should be ashamed of himself for conducting himself in as unprofessional, whiny, SCHOOL GIRL like manner as possible. Those who STILL stick up for him and STILL try to pretend those who disliked his antics are some sort of off-the-handle idiots - are the ones who should be ASHAMED of themselves.

Go on with the personal name calling and attacks though...they seem to keep you going.

Before you dig into me calling Brown - Clown - he indeed acted like a clown and spent his entire year acting like a complete and utter baffoon. Yet, you'll do it anyway, as if it holds some sort of meaning for your argument or fictitious observations on the opinions of fans like myself.

You're proving to be as worthwhile to talk hoops with as Isles with this approach.

And enough with this bitter old man who wasted everyone's time in New York. It's laughable you guys STILL attempt to martyr him here...and then bash anyone who had a problem with his disgraceful conduct.

There was no name calling.

Go ahead and discredit CLOWN for his work in Philly all you want, his job description clearly states he had responsibility to be involved with decision making. I already stated and will again, Brown could have/and should have done things differently but there's also acknowledgement the guy still is clearly qualified to lead and has/will continue to produce results which reflect so.

You know another coach who did many similar things as you outlined above about CLOWN.. his name is Phil Jackson. How have things worked out for him?
