Most of the players in the league use marijuana and I have and do partake in smoking weed in the offseason sometimes," Howard told The Michael Irvin Show on the local ESPN affiliate. "I mean, that's my personal choice and my personal opinion, but I don't think that's stopping me from doing my job."

What a flippin' moron. Why bring this up now, during the playoffs when your team is already in the hole, 0-2, your coach is on the hotseat and your team may be dismantled? This was very selfish on his part, because this statement, whether he meant to or not, indicts his coach, his owner, and Stern.

I'll take it a step further, why bring this up at all? This is another black-eye for his team, the NBA and minorities in general. It feeds into the stereotype of this supposed, thug-hip-hop-league-full of weed smokers. It was also irresposible for hims to try and drag the half the league into this when he said, half the league smokes anyway. Why dont you speak for your self.

Basically, he just spit in the face of Stern, by taunting him with his bogus drug policy and pretty much highlighting the loophole of no testing durung the off season.

Pure idiocy.

If baseball is scrutinized for Steroids--my bet is that this is going to result in a massive investigation with Congress getting involved. You can't have a prominent player admit to using illegal drugs and also implicate most of the league and think nothing will come of it.

Why not just drink good vodka with fiends and family instead of making himself even more moronic with drugs?... I guess it is cultural thing... 4 double shots and he is under the table...

Well, in his defense he might not think its a big deal. And its not. Other countries its legal, oh and pot is not a drug. It doesn't enhance nor hinder performance, so Congress better stay out of this. It just makes you feel good and is a lot safer than a lot , if not most prescription drugs. Not to mention that its a lot safer for the health than alcohol. It has health benefits, from mood enhancement, pain killer, helps with asthma, bring on good appetite, also it slows and reverses the effects of Alzhimers (sp)

It wasn't cool to speak for the rest of the league tho, most people don't understand that its really no big deal. He really should have just said what he had to about himself and he shouldn't have tried to make himself look better by saying that everyone else is doing it too.

Its illegal and he's a pro athlete......Maybe every team needs to have a media relations officer present in all player interviews.

How bout Josh "Hydro" Howard? Lol.

If they are willing to trade the guy the Knicks have to be right there putting in requests.

Its his buisness to keep his business to himself!

Trying to defend it publically is a good reason he needs to stop.

From a P.R standpoint this is a questionable revelation, but I could live without the pious tone that is coursing through the thread. Lemme guess, we're going to steal pages out of the Reagan era playbook and associate herb with every other illegal drug.

I agree 100%. The dude should have kept his mouth shut, but I dont think its the end of the world if a guy smokes pot. If I could I would probably smoke too.

i mean, the pot debate just needs to stop, it is so silly.

you know who funds the "partnership for a drug free america"? the alcohol and tobacco lobbies. go out and drink 12 beers, the next day smoke a pack of cigarettes, and on the 3rd day smoke some weed. tell me you don't feel a whole lot better after smoking weed than you do drinking or smoking cigarettes. like 99 out of 100 things, the answer is MONEY! why legalize something when the pharmaceutical companies, alcohol, and cigarette companies all make more $$ and you can also fill up prisons with nonviolent drug offenders (50% of people in jail in the US are nonviolent drug offenders; 1/4 of the world's prison population is in the united states).

prohibition NEVER works better than regulation and control. weed should be legalized, every other drug should be DECRIMINALIZED. there is no sense locking up a heroin addict, he isn't a criminal, just a drug abuser.

plus, howard might've taken some pressure off the mavs by putting the spotlight on him, they won last night!

I agree with 100% with your views on weed, butas far as other drugs like crack and heroin, I think the laws are right where they should be. What bull**** collars like criminal trespass and cpcs7 (narcotics possession) accomplish cant be defined in statistics. If a crackhead spends the night in jail thats one less person who wakes up in the morning to find their car windows smashed. Thats one less crackhead getting high in a stairwell of a housing development, leaving a nice pile of human feces for the residents the next day. That could be a burglary, a rape, or even a murder that was never allowed to take place. I think that many of the proponents of legalizing drugs dont have to deal with the crackheads and dopefiends that lower the quality of life in poorer neighborhoods.
