calderon is clearly superior to tj ford. but tj ford isn't too shabby.
Ford is supposed to be this great table setter, a guy who would set the table on a team like the Wizards where he'll let other guys get off. Ford 21pts/3ast Calderon 18pts/13ast. Looks like T.J. put out Arenas type production. 11fga in 23min of play hmmmmm.
the magic defense sagged back on the pick and roll leaving tj wide open. that was their game plan. so he took the shot. he hit them last night. he ran the team and he was the main reason they went up 21 points by halftime. bosh was a no-show last night. when you're best player doesn't deliver, someone has to take the team over - tj did that last night. (as did jose in the 2nd half). and there were at least 5 situations where he penetrated and kicked out to wide open shooters...and they missed. they blew at least 4-5 assists for him. crowd even chanted tj's name.
magic somewhat did the same thing with jose...they left him somewhat open on the pick and roll as they sagged back on bosh to clog the paint...and jose hit 3's. jose closed out the game the entire 4th. that's how smitch has been playing them. alternate quarters basically and if someone is playing poorly, he'll pull them. jose gets the 4th every game but if he's not playing well, he'll pull him.
tj worked on his jumper all summer and at the start of the season, before he got hurt, his midrange jumper was money. he needs to develop that b/c he can get an open look at will, and if they play up on him, he can go right around him. he was a table setter...always has been.
