Tax free with free housing and the euro is worthly nearly double the dollar. If we consider taxes and the value of the dollar--a contract of 3mm euros is equal to an 8mm $ contract in the USA. I think you will see more and more agents moving their clients to Europe.

It ain't all it's cracked up to be. Unless you are all about the money, most NBA guys are not going to enjoy playing in Europe.

I got a buddy in Greece right now. Making similar money, eating great food, and sleeping with a ton of women. He is dying to get back and hopefully get a shot at the NBA. He hates it there. Hates the gym. Hates the people. Hates the culture. Hates the treatment he gets. Hates the politics. Some will like it. But personal experience tells me that unless you have the right situation, money, food and women aren't everything. Well at least money and food aren't

And about half your salary goes to the government in taxes. Its all equals out.

If someone told me that as a kid maybe i would have tried harder and never quit playing basketball. I was pretty good as a teen. I never tried out cuz I'm 5'10"...I stopped growing in the 8th grade. There was nothing really special about my game that made me think I was good enough to be in the nba.....I for damn sure coulda went to play overseas or in some american minor league......never thought of it.

I tell every kid I know that plays ball not to give up if they love it. Fuck the NBA.....play in Europe, make 6 figures and you can take care of whoever you want to back home. Come back to the states in the off-season and live the life.

Yes, but Briggs said "If I was bit NBA player". I'm assuming he's talking about a bench player in the NBA. Not some kid that is dying to play ball for a living, but someone that currently is.

Trust me, do not romanticize Europe. Unless you are playing for some of the the bigger clubs(which are as hard to make as the NBA), you are playing in some horrible arenas in front of people that hate you, your country and the fact that you are alive. For a year or so it's fine. But once you take one battery to your dome because you missed a lay-up, that Accounting job in Bayonne doesn't sound so bad.

I bet he would trade that in a second though for a spot on an NBA roster. Donnie has always been about the NBA ever since high school, dreams like that don't go away very quickly.

He's living well right now, but I still think he would kill to be in the NBA.

Interesting post BRIGGS. I read or heard about how Seattle is not going to get a team because the NBA is looking to expand internationally, and you have to expect Europe to get at least 1, probably 2 teams. That's a lot of extra revenue they would make if the get it in Euros or Pounds (which is literally $2=1 pound).

As for I was always under the impression folks still have to pay U.S. taxes if you live abroad?

My school has a pipeline to Europe. Every year they send 1 or 2 guys. Every year those one or two guys are on the phone trying to figure out what part of their game they have to work on to get to the NBA. Some will love it, but most guys with the ability to play in the NBA(which was the subject of the post) always dreamed of playing in the NBA, and are coming back. I think we are confusing this with the guy that has no shot and just loves getting paid to play ball

I think it depends on the individuals perspective. For me, I enjoy going to Europe now and then for a while, but I'm always happy to come home.
