Because a charge assumes that you know the basic principles of defense which the majority of young players in the league do not. Thats why guys like Nate Robinson go up for blocks against a KG instead of just parking it in the lane and waiting for the hit.

cuz its not HOOD! dukies take charges, not these brothas.
all joking aside, i think there is an element of cowardice to taking a charge these days, honestly i don't think some players have EVER taken a charge and then there are guys like fisher who flop on every play.

That is definately one of the things i want the Knicks to do in the new system- fight for every posession. Taking charges, getting steals and blocked shots can all be game winning plays.

I hate most of the charge calls, they are a disgrace to basketball. Sometimes they are good calls, but most of the times they are no more than a guy falling down to the floor with a small contact, which by no means, should be considered a foul. The problem is that referees should stop calling things anytime they see a player fall. Is not an charge foul nor a blocking foul. Most of the times it is just someone going to the floor trying to cheat or just a good defensive play/bad offensive play (the ball usually does not go in after that kind of contact), so you dont need to favour even more the defensive team with a foul. Charges have killed post players in Europe, thats why in Europe most of the teams win with 3 pointers and centers are becoming jump shooters more recently. That being said, a predictable player like Curry makes it VERY easy for referees to call charge fouls.

Taking charges is all about stopping the ball. That's why there is a valid argument when saying block shots are overrated. If guys are getting after it and putting a body on their man then you wouldn't need a dominant shotblocker.
Oakley and Mason were masters at taking the charge. They didn't flop. They just stopped the ball and didn't shy away from inpact. These players today wanna fight after making this type of contact........then you got those floppers. Flopping is a ***** offense.
