When the Knicks won the first pick in 1985, they were in the 5th slot. Can lightning strike twice?

The 3rd and 5th spots seem to be the hot-spots to jump to #1. #3 and #5 have won the top pick more than the team with the worst record. My only concern is that at some point the law of averages will kick in.

Yeah, you know -- I had this feeling towards the end of the season, that if the Knicks fell to the bottom two teams in the league, that they'd get skipped by the 5th spot. I just thought that would be the type of thing that would happen to our team. So I'm not that upset that we are where we are -- we are where we're supposed to be, we were pretty much 5th worse all season long.

More often than not, teams that deliberately tank, get screwed. You hear that Miami?

Those are just random occurrences that you get with small samples. There's no legitimate reason to prefer the #3 slot over the #2 slot (or #5 over #4).

I think I adressed that point.

Eh, these are the Knicks. They never have any luck. There is also the possibility they can move down. It's a lottery and anything can happen. But it would have been better if we had a higher chance at a top pick. I think I agree with the law of averages theory. The 5th and 6th slots aren't going to win it every year and I think 3 straight years is probably where it will end.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I didn't post this because I think the fifth slot is somehow better than the 1, 2, 3 or 4 slot. It just feels good to know that, at the very least, we're in one of the lottery positions that has, mathematically and historically, a legit shot at the first pick. As pessimistic as I can be about the team, we do have a shot at moving up and it's a realistic shot. LET'S GO KNICKS!!! WIN THE LOTTERY!!!
