Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony was arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence, Denver police said.


Anthony was driving south on Interstate 25 at around 4 a.m. when he was pulled over and taken into custody. Denver police said he was driving a silver Mercedes and was stopped for failing to drive in a single lane and failing to dim lights. Several Denver media outlets reported that he was given a Breathalyzer test.


"We are aware of the situation with Carmelo Anthony," the Nuggets said in a statement, adding that they are gathering information and have no further comment.

Anthony's lawyer confirmed that the forward was released on bond later Monday morning and a summons appearance was scheduled for May 14.

"He cooperated by consenting to a blood test, the results of which will not be available for approximately two weeks," attorney Dan Recht said. "There was no accident and no one was hurt."

He took the breatalyzer test , so if he was drunk, he really messed up.

The playoffs are right around the corner if they qualify.

LOL @ this Bum for celebrating early beating the Rockets by Boozing Up and getting behind a wheel.

I so hope Golden State somehow beats PHX tonight and then Denver chokes @ home against Memphis because of this.

So was Melo booked because he was DWB? Is this what you're implying he was stopped really for no reason?

He was drunk enough to not stay in a single lane and driving with brights on. Considering he's already made an Apology to the Denver community I'd say this speaks for itself.

He wasnt only given a ticket. He was taken into custody and released on bond. He was arrested. Im not sure about the local law in Denver, but in NYC there is something similar (DAT-desk appearance ticket) which is still an arrest except after the suspect is fingerprinted and photographed he is released with a later court date. The criteria that determines someones eligibility is their criminal record, the severity of the crime that they were arrested for, whether or not they can have proof of address/identity, and also if thay are impaired by drugs or alcohol to the extent that they may be a danger to themselves or others. Although the perp is released he has still been arrested, which many people fail to understand ("Na, ive never been arrested, they just gave me a DAT").

I imagine that something similar is what happened to Anthony, although I admit that im unfamiliar with the local laws.

Melo is still maturing but watching the Glenn "big dog" robinson tapes won't help him.

He is still a bone head kid but I thought he was making progress.

I know he is still young and young guys make mistakes, but if you want to stay a kid stay in school and have some fun! When you take on the "jump" to the NBA it comes with responsablities.

With all that, the NBA has done a great job of late keeping the players better educated about trouble areas. Very few instances the last year or so about guns, booze, and other stuff. Even Zbo had only one "brush" for old time sakes in portland.

How many people apologize publicly for being completely innocent of wrongdoing? He may not have been completely drunk but apparently enough to have his senses impaired not to drive safely. Hey Conspiracy guy how come it couldn't be they let Melo go because of who he is?
