Based off RealGM MockDraft.
In an NBA in which very few players can create their own offense, Mayo will be elite (as long as he is not guarded by Russell Westbrook).

He creates separation off the dribble to generate space to get his jumper off, but what is more impressive and refined is his knack for preserving his dribble, squaring up in a triple-threat position with purpose and intent. He is able to back defenders up with jab steps, which sets things up for when he does put the ball on the floor, where he is highly imaginative, utilizing a wide array of moves to score.

Though shorter and slightly less athletic than both Jordan and Bryant, Mayo is headed for this type of individual career.

Despite a history of character issues, from every moment I've seen, his on-floor character appears impeccable. He plays the game in a very stoic yet passionate manner.

He also has been a much more committed defender than many were expecting.

HOF: 30%
All-Star: 70%
Starter: 95%
Rotation Player: 99%

I was thinking the same thing a couple days ago on what I highlighted. The fact that this writer was thinking the same thing solidified my view of him. He has that quality that he just wants to be great. He has that grown up professionalism & leadership quality about him. He even likes to bring it defensively and his coach came out and said that he was extremely coachable.

If we were to land him as well as bring in a great coach to grow under. I think Mayo could be special. I don't think he would be on Chris Paul's level. But I think he is one of the few players in this draft that would change the level that the Knicks play at.

He has characteristics & skills that this team needs. Professional, Intense, 2-way player, leadership, high IQ, defense, outside shooting.

I'd take Mayo over Rose at #2. At #6, if Mayo is off the board, Westbrook needs to be the pick.

Do you see Mayo as a point or shooting guard?

I like Mayo less than Rose, cause I think Rose is the better PG prospect, but Id take him over Bayless...
Really see him as a SG...

not to defend him, but Marbury wasn't a bad value/player until he started to get maxed out deals

As long as he has Marbury's skills and not his mentality I am good. If we land out of the top 2, I honestly would prefer to trade down and get extra picks(Augustine and CDR?) if we can't acquire extra picks any other way. Mayo is my 3rd choice.

After Beasley and Rose, Mayo is the next most talented player in this draft. If we fall out of the top 2 and land Mayo, I would be more than pleased.

Mayo is an off-guard. He has an advanced set of moves without the ball. His game is about creating space for his shot. He does this quite, quite well and I think having him run the point is a terrible idea... too much responsibility. I say he's a pure SG prospect, but one athletic/talented enough to play PG if the need arises.

If the Knicks get a ****ty draft pick, I hope Mayo falls. He's the type that would play with a chip on his shoulder and become a star in the league. I don't think he's destined to become the next Bryant or even a perennial all-star... but I definitely think he'll make a few all-star appearances before his career is done.

Its strange to see a player be so heralded and, thereafter, be as under-hyped as Mayo has been. While its fashionable now to label any 6-5 and under guard a tweener, being short is entirely different from playing like a tweener; Mayo both guards bigger players and finishes well at the rim. So, Mayo is not surprisingly a shooting guard and that, to me, is his biggest strength.

Westrook is another "tweener" who is, in fact, a shooting guard. A shooting guard who has a better first step and plays better defense than Derrick Rose. I couldn't figure out why I was met with skepticism mid-season when I first suggested we take Westbrook at #5. The more I've watched of him, the surer I am that Westbrook should be a no brainer at #5.

yea man... I get those kind of vibes also, and like Mayo very much. If HS players were still allowed the thought was he would have gone #1 last year (Oden also being gone the year before)

I think Mayo would do the same think Brandon Roy did for Portland.

I think Gordon is a much better prospect. Gordon is comparable to Mitch Richmond.

Mayo has similar skills to Roy. He's a shooting guard with a pg mentality at times. A playmaker who can create for himself and others. Not super athletic like Roy, but has the smarts to make a key play during the game whether its a key basket, key assist, steal, etc. Plus he plays on the other side of the ball. I'd take him over Gordon in a minute.

OJ Mayo plays absolutely no defense. He is a coaster he doesn't make things happen. He doesn't have greatness in him. Over hyped player at best.

You haven't been watching carefully this year. He does play defense and most anaylst and color commentators that covered his games would atest to.

I watched a few of his games and came away unimpressed maybe I haven't seen enough of his games but from what the hype surrounding him was and the player I saw he didn't live up to the top billing that the hype surrouding him atested to. I saw him as a unathletic overly patient and unable to take command of the spot light given to him.
