*This game was an absolute microcosm of the year* Down nearly 20 points by half either home or away other team lets up Knicks come back to single -digits only to lose by 8-15 points and give up well over 100 points? I mean this is the same formula for almost every game. I did not see most of the second half but it's like Groundhog Day with the Knicks. The Knicks did NOT play 1 rookie other than Chandler--they went at it like it was game 7 of the ECF YET they still are down 20+ at home to a bad team.
Now if you keep the team basically intact--what do you honestly think will change? Not much--we'll get better play from the 3 spot if Chandler can follow through--but the defense will NOT allow us to win games. What sport do you win in if your defense stinks? How do you win games when you are constantly down double digits 10 minutes into a game? If Don Walsh wants to understand what is wrong with the Knicks--tonight was his lesson--forget the last 3--it doesn't count when the other team is not going full tilt--anyone could see that. But when confronted with a mediocre team who played with effort at home--we did the same exact thing go down big come back lose big and give up 100+++++ points. The David Lee Zach Randolph defensive front-line has to be number 30 out of 30 teams. They rebound they score but that's only half the game brother and they are D league material on the other end.
I agree with your observation, which suggest if we were to use our MLE shouldn't we target a defensive minded player instead of someone like J.R. Smith? Whoever we select in the draft, which I wouldn't be opposed to it being someone with defensive talents, won't be able to contribute right away. When I did my draft through the Top 7 I picked at the time who I felt were the best players in College basketball as the Top 2 picks but then the 3rd and 4rth pick I went defense with Thabeet and Jordan. The majority of our moves this off-season should be centered around acquiring defensive players.
