I was an Augustin fan for much of the year, but after watching him in the tournament I've changed my mind.
The tournament doesn't change talent.
The tournament shouldn't have changed people's mind that much from the results. I think fans have to understand coaches can be just as guilty as the players for not performing up to their abilities. Augustin really on had one bad game against a very good Memphis team. Texas' coach didn't prepare his team well at against them. He had Augustin penetrating into a huge Memphis front court with no shooters on the floor while his teammates never gave him good passing lanes to kick the ball out to or drop off to. Augustin played in a competitive conference this season and played well enough to receive All-American honors. He dropped 6DIMES and 6ASSIST this season on a team who more than likely won't have anyone jumping to the pros besides himself. His team also made it to the Elite 8 from a #2 Seed.
Case in point Jameer Nelson played point on St. Joseph who went to the tournament as a number 1 seed in 2004. They ended up making it to the Elite 8 and lost to Oklahoma State. Nelson shot 33% but dropped 8DIMES and 8ASSIST that game. Jameer was selected as the 20th pick of the 2004 draft by Denver and traded to Orlando. Isn't Jameer currently the starting point guard for a 3rd seed Orlando team who'll win 50gms more than likely this season? Their numbers are eerily similar from college and Augstin is a bout 2 inches taller than Nelson.
If we had an extra pick late to mid first round I wouldn't be mad if we walked away with say Gordon/O.J. and Augustin somehow.
