If Knicks cant get Nestrovic, Miller or Olowokandi(which appears to be the case) would you stay the same or take chance on second-tier center like Theo Ratliff, Derrick Coleman or Elden Campbell?
I would love to be the cheese in a Beyonce/Ashanti sandwich.

Kandi wants to follow Miller to Denver... good riddance, no heart. Miller won't sign for the exception so forget about him. Spurs or Wolves odds on to land Nestorovic... Spurs have the cash and bait... however, we have an ever so slight chance with him due to the fact he likes New York. Unlikely however... as far as the rest ARES laughed at me for wanting DC last year... he was pretty damn productive for Sixers.. however, he too old... of that bunch, I'd go for Ratliff but, as I mentioned earlier, I wouldn't give up too much to get him.

I would maybe go for Ratliff...I liked how DC played last year but he is a huge risk and Campbell is way too old.

Ratliff knees worry me a lot, at times he looked in serious pain. I sat behind the Hawks bench for some games last year and ratliff looked like a old man on those knees.. Elden campbell is a bum and coleman skills are decling along with the few brain cells he has left.
I rather not use the MLE on either of those guys...

OasisBU shares my exact sentiments on this one. I would take Ratliff over Coleman the underachiever and Olden Campbell too.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

How about sign none of these POC. Let Lampe and Vranes develop as our C's and save the money for a rainy day. This team needs to cut salary, get younger and more athletic. Spending money on a player like those costs the Knicks double and supports medicority.

Briggs has hit the Nail in the head!!!!!
The longer we go on signing mediocre players to contracts.. the longer we without cap space to sign someone like TMac or Lebron in gree agency when those contracts run out... It is obvious you need star caliber players to win in this league.. Especially at the 4 and 5 position. Anyways... Let's not sign any freee agents.. and develop the core of our players for the future.. trade if possible those ridiculous contracts... and let the ones about to expire like Ward and McDyess to expire... yeah they are trade bait.. but htat's because teams who are doing the right thing ARE CUTTING SALARY!!!!!!

I don't think Ratliff has a long term contract... if this is true and you get him for little to nothing... you do it. Your premise is correct but the reality of the situation is Doleac and Knight is not the answer. You have to put a competitive team on the court if you are ever to convince anyone of value to play here. Vranes will not contribute this year and it's unfair and unrealistic to expect anything from Lampe... Again, if you can get Ratliff for a year or two, and possibly unload any of our garbage in the process, I'd do it.

I don't necesarily disagree with you Pike.
I remember Theo was the Man in Philly before he got hurt and traded for Mutombo. I really haven't followed his career after that but I just checked his stats and he seems to be almost at the same level he was at before he got hurt. If he could be had for cheap or a trade... that would be a good move.. I don't feel the same way about Elden Campbell or Derrick COleman.. although if we can trade.. that would be fine...

That's all I'm saying... no one is talking about giving up Sprewell or KT to get him but, if we lose some of our dead weight in the process... we could be killing two birds with one stone.

I also agree with the Ratliff short-term deal over Knight and Doleac. It's a must that we stay competitive while rebuilding and trimming the cap.

Would you guys sign Ratliff of DC if you could do a one year deal or a sign and trade involving Knight or Doleac?

Just an idea--- how does everyone feel about the big men in Seattle--- Calvin Booth and Jerome James?

We were all hot and bothered over James last summer, but he re-signed with his team. He had a bad year, but I think his big body could still help us. With their need of a PG... how about Ward for either of those guys?

The first priority in ANYTHING we do is and should be to improve our CAP situation. That being said, I don't know everyone contract situation by heart... I was under the impression Doleac signed a one year deal but, it could have been two with the second year being some kind of option, I dunno.

At this point, I think even Laydumb learned not to trade one suckee contract for another mediocre player with a longer term contract. Of course with him, you never know.

given 2 years our cap situation looks a ton better. LJ and Longley I think have come off the books this year already. KT,and spree just have another year left, knight and ward contracts expire after this year. That is a lot of Jack off the books, oh and Dice contract expires after this year also. I think the knicks have a team option. Either way the knicks will only have 3 bad contracts after next year. Houston, Anderson and Eisley.. The latter 2 being the worst in History. I can live with Houston since he does produce...

Doleac has 2 years left on the 3-year contract he signed last summer.
