JaVale McGee

Vitals:

Size: 7-0
Weight: 237
Age: 20 years old
Class: Sophomore
Team: Nevada (21-12)
NBA Position: Center

Stats: 14.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, .6 assist, 2.4 turnovers, 53% FG, 52.5% FT, 33% 3P, 27 minutes[/lfont]

In Short: Rare physical specimen—has an almost unprecedented combination of size, length (7-6), athleticism and fluidity, packed on a frame that should easily be able to fill out nicely. Has excellent hands, runs the floor exceptionally well, and is extremely reactive off his feet. Has an intriguing variety of skills too—the ability to knock down 3-pointers, put the ball on the floor, and execute some incredibly smooth pivot moves in the paint, finishing elegantly off the glass with excellent extension and touch. Gets off the ground impressively and can really be a factor as a shot-blocker or on the offensive glass. A late bloomer who barely played in high school and averaged just 10 minutes a game as a freshman—the sky is clearly the limit on his upside.

The problem is he’s extremely far from reaching his full potential—so far that you have to wonder if he’ll ever make it considering the way he looks at times on the court. Struggles to establish position and finish in the paint, settles for some incredibly awkward off-balance shots, and is virtually a black hole with his passing skills—averaging 4 turnovers for every 1 assist. Looks very disinterested at times, doesn’t hustle, gives up on plays, late getting back down the floor, and might be the worst man to man defender we’ve ever evaluated in the post. Gets pushed around, gambles excessively for steals, has no stance or fundamentals, doesn’t move his feet, and is a complete non-factor even against the mediocre competition he faces. According to Synergy’s “PlayType QuickTable stats,” McGee was scored on 66% of the time when being posted up in the paint (against the likes of Fresno State, Utah State, Houston, etc). Is light years away from being able to compete on an NBA level defensively, if ever.

Chances of returning to school: 0%. Surprisingly already decided to hire an agent, from the NFL ranks. Many scouts are very high on McGee, due to his incredibly high ceiling, which gives him “home run potential” once you get outside the top 10-12 players in this draft. McGee is the type of player that GMs love, but coaches hate, since he could make someone look great down the road, but will take years and years of hard work before he has any chance to do so. If he does, watch out.

Early Projection: 12-25

There is no way this player will be on board that late

IF we dont get top 3 I think my plan is simple and solid

Trade Lee for another high pick and take both Mcgee and Randolph. They can help off the bench as they grow in the next two years .BY 2010 we could have two HUGE frontcourt studs who are salaried controlled for an additional 2 years. In the meantime shop via trade for players that can help the present club yet have contracts that expire by 2010. It's a very realistic smart plan.

Briggs that sound like a move Joe Dumars would do for the pistons.

You give Donnie you're resume' yet?
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

It's funny that he does have a three point shot, yet he's so bad from the line. His biggest weaknesses seem to be his passing and his free throw shooting. But he's good defensively, he's not a bad rebounder and can score some. He and Thabeet are very raw, but both have a future in the league.

I see the vision to build an athletic defensive frontcourt. Now Imagine adding Joey Dorsey in the mix as well. Frontcourt woulld be deep defensively.

yes yes yes

A Randolph/McGee draft would be a great start. Maybe trade Q/Lee/Chandler for Bobby Simmons and the #7 pick. Sign Chris Duhon with part of the MLE and draft Randolph/McGee

Lots of options.

a lot of teams can use a guy that will come in and give you 10/10 and 58% FGs in 30 minutes right out of the box. If you save them money at the same even better. Not all teams can operate like we do

I have pretty good info that Memphis would have given up pick 5 last year for Lee. I will bet that Lee is better than Lopez, Randolph, and the kid for Nevada for their career. Your trading a efficient does need the ball 13-11 guy. If they redid the draft of his class he would be in top 8 and that class in 10x stronger than this class.

I will also bet that Lopez will start dropping if he works out for teams. If he gets a good agent he wont work out to show his weaknesses.

if Memphis would've fell to 5 they would've traded the chance to take Wright Noah or Hawes for Lee?

but then again Wallace/Iavaroni took Conley over those guys so...

and lee should've been late lotto in the 05 draft but top 8:

in no particular order

Bogut
Paul
D Williams
M Williams
Bynum
Ellis
Granger
Gomes

based on talnt, skill, and potential to produce on the next level, May is a better pick as well. too bad he can't stay healthy cuz he has been a load at the 4 when he gets the pt.

David Lee is a great player but ALL of those players have a higher ceiling. You make it sound like David Lee is a franchise player--he's a very good effecient tough player but his 13-11 doesnt hold Charles Oakley's jock strap. I could go down the list on each player on why i think they have higher ceiling's but it really doesnt matter. This is like Monty Hall--do you want the 10K bucks or do you want what is behind door number 5 --10kbucks isnt changinganyone's life.

He's a very tuff american white guy and many fans are dying to see more like him come from the U.S

So they will make out like he is more than what he is. I bet a teams like Utah and Indiana would do all they could to ge him as long as it doesn't destroy what they are trying to do.

David Lee is in the NBA AT THE RIGHT TIME right now, euros are making their move while the american caucasian is a high priced wanted commidity.see(brian Cardinal) 2 yrs left on contract worth 22.6 million what has he done in 8 yrs ?

There in point in dealing Lee if you're not ridding yourself of a bad contract in return.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.
