I was looking at nbadraft.net and I was surprised to see these two point guards going so late (17 and 13 respectively). Both have the mind set to pass first and find the open man. Both are pretty good at it. Both have good outside shots. Both work on defense. Am I missing something?

I wish we had a second 1st round pick because a pick in the teens is likely all you will need to get one of those guys and both of them have the potential to be solid NBA pgs. We should trade Balkman for a mid-first round pick. It is clear Chandler has more potential as a starting SF than Balkman unless Balkman's shotting improves dramatically. Use Balkman as trade bait for a 14-18 pick and try to get Augustin or Collison.

Chandler is not taller than Balk, but he is about 30 lbs. heavier. I wouldn't mind letting Balk go. We could use another foreward about an inch or two taller anyway to increase our height situation.
Now Tyler Hansbrough would be a good pick up at the forward position. He's 6'-9" and a good 245 lbs. of hustling bulk.

Dsvid Lee and Tyler Hansbrough play the same position. Put David Lee in a winning situation and he becomes everything you want Tyler to be.
Augustin and Collison are good but really small guys and not franchise changing. I think Augustin will be more solid but either guy is worth a 15-25 pick in my opinion.

I'd do something to get one of them. Both of these guys look like future starting pg's to me and we haven't had someone like that in how long? Sacramento wanted Balkman and they pick at 12. I'd rather have one of these guys than Balkman or Chandler.

Our perfect draft would be to luck into the 1# pick and get Beasley and then make a trade for a 10-15 pick and get Augustin or Collison.

Well than move crawford for him, we don't need the guy on this team he is statistically the biggest loser in the nba, he's a great media guy and a good community guy but balkman is a game changer off the bench making peanuts you need finishers in the open court and god willing we get rose it makes a lot more sense to add steady play makers and take the lumps for another year and clear space.
You lose 30 million off the cap next year add jamal and you're almost at 40, move eddy and your getting there very quickly

I think there are few worries about Collison. Although his defense is great on the college level, he might not have the strengh to fight through picks on the nba level. He is also short at 6'1, although he does have a very long wingspan. He is also not very explosive around the rim, and although he is a very good penetrator might have trouble finishing on the nba level.
Augustin's defense didn't look all that great to me. He's also really short, without the wingspan of a guy like collison.
However, Collison is generally on the rise on draft boards. The simple fact is, UCLA has been at least an elite 8 team for the 3 years he has been there. Even in his first year, you could tell when watching him, he was good under pressure. However, whenever you have a high percentage ft shooter and fg shooter, you are going to look relatively better in the clutch, cause you are simply a very good shooter.
I wouldn't mind picking up collison by trading for a mid first round pick, especially if we go big with our good pick. However, I would like to see that being done without trading lee or nate. I hope crawford has some value if traded for a less talented player with a similar contract.

Cash, of the two, I'd also prefer Collison. I like having a guy who can run the offense and hit the open j reliably when the ball comes back out to him with a few seconds left on the court. I think the questions you raise about his d are correct, but he will keep players in front of him. All in all, he'll be at least a solid starter in this league with a year's experience. If we get him, he'll be the best point guard we've had in a very long time.
