I am not in favor of universal healthcare, but it is not an issue that will kill me if it goes through. I think we need to make healthcare more affordable for average americans. I'm pretty sure we can do that by limiting things like puntive damages and pain and suffering in medical malpractice cases. This sucks for the average joe that gets injured(although they are still getting something), but the system has to give somewhere. Doctors already have an incentive not to commit med mal, and we just can't afford to be giving millions of dollars to victims when there are tons of people who are not getting insurance, and foregoing prevention, which is increasing costs. I also think there are other things we can do, but that is an issue for another day.
When a person gets hurt, they should be covered to get better. If they want to start trouble, then throw them back onto the streets and let them compare to what they had and what they don't have. I think our society is just too dummied down to think common sense anymore. Believe it or not, there was a time when the system actually worked and the Government was willing to help people help themselves. Now everything is about 'how much can I get'. I feel bad for those who would welcome universal health care, because peanuts just don't work for when you really' need help. I consider myself very lucky and never take it for granted.
A large part of my problem with universal healthcare is that health is really a complicated issuem and so is the science behind it. Doctors don't know as much about the way the body works as most people think they do. They are mostly trained to understand that if you have condition A and B, then we can give you remedy C. But, alot of this stuff is really complicated and doctors are just doing the best they can. But, a lot of these remedies are expensive, and they aren't necessarily going to work. For example, I have a problem with my foot which I have had numerous doctors for(on healthcare and off) for which they have not solved. I have spent a ton of money on this. Health is just really complicated and we can't afford to spend a ton of money on it, when we could be spending that money elsewhere. There is no guarantee of health, nor has there ever been. People get sick, and a lot of the time doctors don't know why.
I don't think we can afford it.
