right now the nba is turning into a joke

the knicks wouldend up last in the west a teamlike Denver who adds probably the best rookie carmelo arenas and brad miller would be better than us.

the east is made up of either young rebuilding teams or shot teams. if kidd leaves its just a waste.

Just part of the natural cycle...as another poster noted. There was indeed a period when everyone expected the NBA champs to come from the east. Yes, there was a bit more parity then, but ('94 and Stark's shooting aside) people would assume that Chicago, NY, Indiana, Orlando would be teams to fear in a series.

LA was Sedale-ville at the time, leaving Utah to go to the finals twice (It was twice, right?)...

Anyways, all the draft picks the eastern teams are getting...It's only a matter of time, I think, before the pendulum re-adjusts...

The NFL is the only league where fans from (ANY) city has a chance to win it all in any given yr.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

the west has been dominant for years now micheal jordan has covered that up but the knicks indy and miami could never beat the western unless you believed in eastern media reports.

c'mon man. Dallas was making runs at the record for least wins in a season season in and season out. Portland was probably the DUMBEST team I ever saw, even with all their talent (They should've won at least one title), LA was being lead by people like Sedale Threatt (I think that was his name) and had bad coach after bad coach.

Houston was pretty damned good and, of course, won those back-to-backs. So was SA. Sacrmanento? Up and coming, but not yet a threat. Denver? get real. Phoenix lost it once KJ went down and Barkley left, but even before that I don't think they were a REAL threat. Seattle? Always one step behind. Almost there, but not quite. Who? Clippers, Golden State (Run TMC??), Minny???

Oh, there's Utah. The little team that could, yet never actually did.

typical east coast bias

problem with you east coast fans, i really think yall root with your heart and ignore the facts.

pre michael jordan la kicked every one's AZZ, detroit and boston got theres la was in the finals 9 times won 5.Michael did his thing, michael took a sabatical The west won back to back and even swept a finals.
mike brought the east back, then took another sabatical the east haven't won since.

Those are the facts, in my opinion, hoston, phoenix Settle were the best of the mid michael dynasty years, and only Houston were great, but the fact is not so much the west was great.

it's the east just sucked man. the knicks were a facade, they had a pumped up franchise player that had a weak heart settled for jumpers, couldn't catch a pass and just wasn't a leader on the court. i'm not worried about the off the court non sense but when your center is scared of a two guard he is not a court leader.

the power foward couldn't make a layup, two guard couldn't dribble. the knicks made up for there lack up talent with hjard work, and caveman style of play. they always got there azz kicked when they went out west.

please don't start me on indiana

orlando had shaq stayed prolly could of changed that, they were on the cusp, but the knicks man sing along with me

NEW YORK, NEW YORK BIG CITY OF DREAMS, BUT EVERYTHING IN NEW YORK AINT ALWAYS WHAT IT SEEMS.

THAT SONG WAS MADE FOR THE KNICKS, YOU WERE HOODWINKED BAMBOOZLED.

i aint mad New yorkers feel like they actually had a champion ship team.

but no one else feels like that about those knicks team. especially the players.

they knew the knicks were warriors they would fight to the end. but knew at the end of the day the knicks didn't have enough talent and couldn't score to win a championship.

the knicks of the 90's remind me a lot of the 2003 piston team.

Damn, man, how far back you going?

Don't go 'pre-michael' on me. LOL

Houston, I'll grant you. Phoenix and Seattle?? And then you call NEW YORK a facade team? c'mon Ice, don't let your hate for Ew blind you like that. Phoenix was almost there, until KJ went down. Seattle. Never. For all the crotch-grabbing Kemp did while throwing it down, they never had a realistic shot at the title.

Were it not for MJ (NOT the West) NY would've won a title in the late 80s, early 90s. Particularly before Ew had his wrist ****ed up.

Indiana, I'll grant you, but even they had as much a realistic chance at the title as your Supersonics did. I don't understand tho how you, on other posts, can call Reggie 'clutch', yet rip Ew. Reggie never did a damned thing against anybody except NY. He should thank all NY for helping him feed his family and make his fame. Hell, he couldn't even get Indi past NJ.

I think you are severely overrating the West in the late 80s and early 90s. If you're talking about the second half of the 90s, the scales were definitely tipping towards the West by then.

Bottom line... the good teams get the cream of the crop... sometimes at bargain rates like the Lakers enjoyed this year.

The bad teams can't lure anyone and are often faced with the prospect of overpaying to re-sign their own players or losing them to a contender for nothing... thus, they overpay and dig themselves into a deeper hole.

One of the problems of the system I brought up a few days ago. A GM of a mid to bad team has to ask himself this question... if I re-sign this player, would I be able to trade him down the road... if he can't (with the NBA CAP situation) ... he's making a mistake... a la Allan Houston.

ok nec you made me do this you.

lets play a game.

I will name three players on those three teams. you name three player either on the knicks or indiana better than the guys i will name.

olajuwon,drexler,cassell

kemp,payton,Schremp,

Barkley,KG and anybody you want to name.

Even weaker teams like the spurs had sean elliot and rod Strickland

I hate Ewing but he was the only knick that can play, the rest of the knicks were glorified and unglorified role players. my point on ewing was he wasn't a superstar but he was a good player.

cant come up with three.
how is this
reggie,smits and dale davis
it don't work

the eastern conference was weak then bro, you are going with your heart bro, for the knicks to score 80 points they played a great game, the second best offensive player was a bagger in a supermarket that was a reject from the cba.

your third best player was a 40 year old point.

seattle wasn't a great team but they were better than the knicks. all these are opinions. i am not east coast bias. but the facts are the east haven't won it with out michael. they have had

7 tries.
west was better and is better bro, 7 aint no lie.
i should say 8.we know the west is winning next year.

i agree that it is all in cycles. though i think the gap is MUCH larger than i have ever seen it in my 20 years of watching basketball. but the scale will tip again in five years when young players like james, milicic, kwame brown, butler and bosh mature ( unless there is another free agent exodus). i think indy could be a power house team if they make the right moves ( like a better coach). detroit, orlando, and miami could all be legit champioship contenders in the next five years because they either have great young players or assets to improve greatly. but the next few years will be ugly and it could damage the sport especially with the weak ratings the past few years for the finals. unless a eastern team makes a MAJOR move the east will be gridlocked in this mediocrity for a few years.

as far as when the east dominated, i thought the eastern teams were significantly better in the late 80's and early 90's. remember, detroit and chicago won championships in those years. during that period, boston , cleveland ( price and daugherty were devastating)and new york ( if the 91-92 knicks got passed chicago, they would have kicked everyone's ass with x-men and oak patrolling the lane)could have easily won championships. the big factor was defense. the great temas in the west like portland, phoenix and la played either so so defense or matador defense. they wanted to outgun their opponent. that is why someone like doug moe( remember that name?) was successfull with denver but came over to the east with philly and got his ass kicked. houston and sa won because they played great defense in the mid to late 90's. but i thought during that time the scale was even. the knicks could have easily won in 94 but bad decisions were made. so it is not " east coast" bias. it is pure facts.

east coast/west coast is incidental... it's really the widening gap between weak and strong and it is in part a function of the messed up NBA collective bargaining agreement... it doesn't work.

i don't think that is so, teams are getting better, houston phoenix, golden state damn it even memphis, all these team are in the west.

i know your points on strong and weak but the nets celtics knicks and buck are standing still or getting worst. and denver a team that is not strong is getting better. so it's definately a west east thing

bocker the question was for the knicks and indiana, i already assumed the bulls trio was better than any thing out west.

the celtics trio was pre jordan
the question was during the jordan dynasty

price duagherty and nance that was a joke right, thats better than akeem drexler and cassell?? lol.

Mourning tim and WHO? that wasn't the real mash that played in miami. by the way that miami team sucked and you know it.

Hoston spree and camby werent on those knicks team you know that too
you cant combine guys from different era's

thats cheating.

and those westerns team had other guys i was being nice by cutting it too three. imagine if i said horry, marle

piston were pre jordan too
i mean pre jordan championship run that is

and even if you want to accumalate knick era's none of them beat a western team in the finals.

shaq, kobe ,horry

duncan,robinson....pick a guy

ouch

Houston, Phoenix, Golden State and Memphis were in the bottom and lucked out in the lottery.

Nets got good due to draft picks and Thorn.

Knicks haven't been to the lottery till the last 2 years and we get late lottery picks at that. Plus we have Layden.

Bucks have always been good enough to stay status quo.

To get better in the NBA you need to hit rock bottom like Houston, San Antonio, Lakers, Sacramento and the like.

If you keep fighting for the 5th to 8th spot in the playoffs then you are going nowhere fast.

... the only reason Denver is getting better is Kiki has the balls to buck the trend and rebuild... he's figured out one of the few ways to get out of the abyss... kind of like your plan to scrap everything and shoot for LeBron James when he becomes a free agent in 3 years...

Anyway, the rest are scrambling to make the playoffs and be competitive...
i cant believe the desparity of the east and west
