"What I would say [is] that this is going to be one of the most important offseasons the Knicks are going to have," Stern said.

"Because on the court, they're going to have to be prepared to have a better year next year, if you're a Knicks fan. As you watch it, ownership is prepared to spend money to improve the team and do what has to be done. They haven't had the results, but I have to believe that this is going to be an interesting and potentially transformative offseason."
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

I'm glad stern thinks so- but I don't know that adding a GM/Prez of Colangelo or Walsh's stature is enough to be labeled transformative.

There is so much highly paid detritus on this roster, that it will take more than one off season.

Now, if Stern is going to rig the lottery, then maybe I'll go with transformative.

Still, I am just arguing language and semantics.

If we get a new GM like Walsh or Colangelo, it will be a breath of fresh air.

Transformative will be if Dolan comes out and apologizes to fans for what he has done to the franchise, admits its time to rebuild, and rebuild the right way. Levels with fans like adults and says we're probably not going to win many games, but our guys will try hard every night- the effort and enthusiasm for the game will be there.

And he needs to bring Marv Albert back too!

And the next day, pigs will fly, the sun will rise in the West and Kwame Brown becomes league MVP.

So we'll be spending more money, that's comforting to know.

i honestly believe STERN will make sure we get the 2nd or 3rd pick in the draft. I dont think we'll win the first pick... (just to not make it obvious).... rejoice knickerbockers!!!

I agree. Terrible news if we're going to "fix" this mess by spending more money. That's how we got into the mess.

Stern stays manipulating, but not so much in this case. NY is a cornerstone franchise and its not in the best interest of the league for the team to be a perennial laughingstock. Its perfectly acceptable for him to take a more proactive approach and vocally express his thoughts concerning the development of one of his market powerhouses> That said, I dont see where you surmise that his "altering" things. You're sounding like one of those conspiracy theorists that acts as if the commish is in the bag for NY and will hand us #1 picks and Labron James. If thats been his M.O, he's done a raggedy job this decade.

I hope fans understand how bad the situation is. It's going to take a while to undo I SAY UGH's mess. He piled on Layden's mess 100fold by trading away our most valuable assets and acquiring untradeable ASS-S-H-I-T-S. We have nothing to build around and our financial situation isn't all that great when looked at objectively, almost 5yrs removed from the Layden era.

Hopefully, Stern meant that Dolan would spend the money to buyout the garbage on this team and purge us of the toxic personalities that have been holding the team back. If he meant that we're gonna be piling even more bad contracts on then I ain't happy about that one bit.

... And eViL ain't pretty when he's mad. Watch your back, Dolan (aka the flying jackass)!

Really, if the Knicks approach this offseason by spending more money, the Knicks front office will be confirmed as being the dumbest living beings on this planet. The former winner of this dubious award:

I'm glad to hear that Stern gets it. He understands that Isiah Thomas is the man to transform the Knicks this off-season. With the help of Dolan, Isiah stands ready to build on all that he has achieved since driving out Layden, Brown & Browne. All the pieces are there, and this off-season, the last piece of the puzzle will fall into place. I feel that Marbury will be a big part of it, and that Isiah will find a way to package our pick with David Lee to finally bring Steve Francis back home. With Stevie & Marbs in the back court, and Zach and Curry holding down the front court, the Knicks will be unstoppable next year, and win their first championship in 30+ years.
