Clippers forward Elton Brand worked out with Lampe in Chicago before the NBA draft and gave a so-so review.

"He's a shooter," Brand said. "He likes to shoot. I don't know if we can talk about his weaknesses yet. He needs to bulk up if he's going to play the five or speed up if he's going to play the three, but he should be all right."

---

Hmm... sounds like he's meant to be a PF. Of course--- if we continue to try to be optimistic, we can point to the success of Pau Gasol, who isn't particularly strong nor super-quick (but has a nice first step!).

Let's hope Lampe is as fundamentally sound as they say he is, with his european background and all. Maybe he's more suited for a team game. He's really young. One thing that's different about many of these european players coming to the NBA in recent years is that they actually improve as the seasons pass. Credit this to their work ethic, I guess.

BTW--- from watching angles, it seemed as if the Knicks were pretty much sold on Sweetney being their pick--- there was no deliberation over Lampe or any other players when they got to #9.

I wonder if the interest in Lampe pre-draft was a smokescreen by teams to get their guys. His value seemed to rocket up after the Russian guy pulled out.

Lampe will get quicker... he's still growing, the leg muscles get enlongated and can't fill out... your coordination and center of gravity is ever changing.. so we don't really know how agile the guy will be for another year or two. Strength will be there... he's got a great frame for adding weight. All in all this kid won't contribute for two years.

good point rain beside the knicks got nothing but tie, they going to suck anyway. i would trade everyone on this team except lampe let him develop, and go for lebron in 2008 or so

Rain I thought you didn't mind the knicks playing youth and losing games? Everybody will see the knicks win with youth and vets this yr.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

... and if LeBron feels like signing with someone else then you've just thrown a decade down the drain. People this is the perfect example of how not to rebuild. Take a lesson from the hapless Bulls, superstar free agents dont want to play for a LOSER!!

Playa is right on point in regards to next year.

subzero you don't know playa as long as me.
you don't know agreeing with him is the kiss of death.
i will be here to remind you of your words. i bet by that time you will change your screen name.

if lebron don't want to sign with us there is plenty of free agents out there to go after.

the worst thing is that we will get under the cap by going after my plan.

my friend this is the exact way to rebuild, you need to check again. going under the cap didn't hurt L.A, give chicago some time they won 6 titles in the last 10 years can they have some buffer time.
we haven't won it in 30.

in case you haven't noticed we have been throwing the decade away any way. by signing mediocre players to long term expensive contracts.

Save the system talk coach bull offense defense you win in this league by getting a franchise player a mvp caliber player. we have no shot at that for some years so forget the crap talk about throwing the decade away.

the knicks have done that already. we need to prepare for a few years down the line. you say playa is on point.

dog you are in denial. we got a chance to be a mediocre to good team.

been there done that....if it's not about a championship it aint about nothing. we cant get a good player like houston, spree or patrick ewing and pretend they are franchise players. we got to go after a real franchise player. we got to at least try. for those ticket prices and for my cable bill dolan owes it to NY

or do you want to keep weatherspoon, eisley and sweetney.

Ares I agree with you on a couple of things but that doesnt mean that i share all of your ideals, the same goes with my agreement to Playa's point. I dont share all of his opinions.

But i do believe the Knicks like any other team need balance in order to do well. Youth and vets will make this team a better team than they were last year. Are these the players that are going to win a championship? Maybe not. But they can keep the team attractive enough so that when we finally trade or get some dead weight off the books we can get someone who is going to want to come hear to play. Can you imagine that the only free agents we are trying to get are guys like Nesterovic and Doleac? If this team gets any worse NO ONE is going to want to play hear. We had a hard enough time trying to get players when we were a playoff team. Now you want to take us out of contention altogether!!?

That year we were going after Grant Hill and didnt get him even though his idol, 33, wanted him hear. The year we got McDyess he was happy to play here because as he put it he wanted to play with Houston and Spree. That's what going to help us get players. If Cleveland is still the last place team it is now when LeBron is a free agent, why would he sign with a NY team that has an even worse record that year. IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE for a player to do something like that.

So you say, if he doesnt want to come then someone else will, thats great. We are saved right? Wrong! The one superstar that joins us with a crappy record is not going to win us the championship because we will have been missing the chemistry and balance i have talked about earlier. By the time we acquire the players to support our star and achieve balance we would have wasted another 15 YEARS!! This has happened before!! To the knicks in the late 80's and 90's!! and guess what, IT DOESNT WORK.

Lets learn from our mistakes, PLEASE.

You want to know why it worked for the Bulls?? They got the greatest player in the history of basketball.

You want to know why it worked for the lakers?? Because Kobe whined for the Lakers to take him. Why?? Cause he grew up watching a COMPETITIVE Lakers team in the playoffs year after year. Do you see what im getting to?? It is important for us to stay competitive.

Lets learn from our mistakes, PLEASE.
