BROWNE SANDERS RIPS 'INCOMPETENT' KNICKS
By MARC BERMAN

March 14, 2008 -- Anucha Browne Sanders teed off on Knicks owner James Dolan and Garden president Steve Mills yesterday for not firing Isiah Thomas during this catastrophic season.
Sanders also said she believes David Stern is aware of Thomas' character and will not be surprised if he demands a change after the season.

The Knicks former marketing director who won an $11.6 million sexual harassment lawsuit over Thomas and the Garden called for Thomas' ouster after her October victory.

"I'm not surprised because incompetence is rampant across the board at MSG and Cablevision," Browne told The Post. "(Isiah) fits in pretty well then. They all deserve each other, Mills, Dolan, Isiah. Dolan is incompetent. Mills is incompetent. Isiah is incompetent. That's why they're at this point, that's why there was a lawsuit, that's why there was a trial, that's why they allowed all their dirty laundry to be aired."

Sanders is in the spotlight again, featured in a 7,500-word story in the March issue of the fashion magazine, Elle, which hits newsstands today.

An associate athletic director at the University of Buffalo, Sanders told The Post an incident that occurred between Thomas and Stern in 2005 in which she claims the Knicks president/coach lied in front of the commissioner.

According to Sanders, Thomas attended an NBA marketing meeting in which Stern was present. Sanders said when Thomas got up to speak to the league's marketing directors, he told them before he makes any changes to the roster or with any element, he always consults with Sanders.

"I was dumbfounded," Sanders said. "David Stern came up to me later, and he knew it was a bunch of [garbage]. And it was a blatant, outright lie. So I think David is familiar with what kind of guy he is. David knows the good guys in the league and the bad guys in the league. And his job is to promote the sport and league."

The magazine piece was written by one of Sanders' Northwestern teammates, Maureen Holohan - which, according to a source, drew the ire from Thomas' publicist. Thomas publicist declined comment yesterday.

Sanders told Elle, "I have spent so much time on the basketball court, it wasn't as if I was this overly sensitive woman. I'm used to hearing people curse. It's when they're cursing at you and referring to you as a bitch, and motherbleeper and ho, that's when it's beyond the lines."

Sanders said she had an exploratory conversation with the Bulls regarding an NBA return, but is happy working in college sports.

"If there was one team I'd want to work for, it's the Bulls, because John Paxson is a man of character," Sanders said of Thomas' general manager rival.

Well now Dolan will never fire Isiah. Thanks a lot Anucha.

She won, she's completely vindicated, she made Dolan, Mills, Isiah and MSG look exactly the way they truly are and she got every dime she wanted and then some. She's proven her point, now it's time to go away before she starts getting people to sympathize with them.

Marv - the fact Anucha is still pissed is all well and good, but you know like I know that Dolan isn't going anywhere anytime soon and whatever executive decisions are made at MSG hinge on his (cough) judgement.

What does additional press coverage of Anucha, or "inside information" (as if there is something new to be discovered) change about the Knicks?

Now why would you call Anucha such a derogatory word? Did she sell her body like the that other woman?

That's real classless misterearl.

why wouildn't i be interested in hearing about incidents that occurred with zeke representing the knicks by people who witnessed them?

Wasn't Jack Johnson jailed in Federal prison for violating the Mann Act?

"Spitzer faces the possibility of being indicted not only for violating the Mann Act - which prohibits sending women across state lines for "immoral" purposes - but also for money laundering because he paid the pimps who ran the club."

... and this guy represented the entire taxpaying State of New York

ha. earl thinks he's using a digression to protect his precious zeke when what he's actually doing is lowering the discussion of zeke to be on a parallel with spitzer.

Does it make you feel better to be saying, well zeke’s pretty low but here’s someone who’s even lower yet?

Damn! Will she shut her mouth! We all know how stubborn Dolan is. You have the Post, Daily news, Stern, Fans, B.B commentators, and now his arch-nemesis Anucha calling for Isiahs head. All of this is making Doaln want to turn his back on the nay-sayers just to prove a point.

BTW, how much credibility can you give to this article when Anucha's friend is the author?

She's right. But she can go away now. She'll be back in the NBA soon enough. There's no need to try and keep her name in the papers. She was actually very good at her job and should work her way back to the top based on her resume and merits, not by playing Captain Obvious for the NY media.

well i think the credibility of her quotes is what it is - it doesn't matter who prints them up.

Anucha calling out Zeke for lying to Sterns face is a good thing.

The more Anucha is out there the more the knicks bad publicity will get, and thats what it will take to make a change.

I want to hear the story, I want to hear about the idiots running our team.

I bought Keith Glass's book (Larrys agent) and am looking forward to LB's chapter with the knicks.

MSG did Anucha dirty and she has every right to speak when interviewed.

Sure its old news, but its not out there enough to enact change!

"Paxton is a man of character"! Great quote! Tell that to Isiah who allowed Paxton to fleece him.

And yes, Miss Dupree got in the truck, not Anucha!

Nalod - change is good. But the type of change needed at 2 Penn Plaza starts with the board room. If Stern can pull that off it will be a better trick than the frozen ping-pong ball

Time for Anucha to just be quiet. An article written by a teammate, even if every word is true, lessens her crediablity. Complaining about lying to David Stern - childish, especially in the scenario of a speaking engagement.
