Anybody catch this new show? What an excellent plot. I just caught the pilot and the 2nd episode online and I think I am going to be hooked on this show. Right now, I am hooked on Jericho and New Amsterdam.

This is the plot as per wikipedia
Plot
The main character is John Amsterdam (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), a New York homicide detective who is immortal. Amsterdam was a Dutch soldier in the year 1642 when he stepped in front of a sword to save the life of a Native American girl during a massacre of her indigenous tribe. The girl in turn rescued Amsterdam by weaving an ancient spell that conferred immortality upon him. It was also prophesied that he would not age until he finds his one true love, and only then will he become whole and ready for mortality. His immortality has resulted in Amsterdam spending over three centuries of his life marked by loss as his friends gradually grow old and die while he is forced to remain alive. Amsterdam is also a former alcoholic who regularly attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, having remained sober since 1965.

The basic back-story appears to have some similarities to the plot of the Pete Hamill book, Forever, which tells the story of an Irish boy who travels to New York at the end of the 17th century to avenge his father's death. After he steps in front of a mob intent on killing an African slave, the slave and his sister reward him by casting a spell which grants him immortality. He is told that the only two ways he can become mortal are to step off the island of Manhattan, or to love a dark woman foretold in prophecy. However, if he leaves Manhattan he will die as a suicide, forbidden from passing to the Otherworld where he can finally reunite with his family.

Another great episode last night. I love how he answers everything truthfully and people around thinks he is just being sarcastic.
