Say we were lucky and we got Rose in the draft---a second high pick for a big men with a propenisty for defense---say a Thabeet and let them grow together and build a team within those guys as the other contracts run out. I like David Lee but I dont like the Lee Randolph Curry thing. We could replace Lee short term with a vet like Joe Smith--let the other contracts start to run dry and build around Rose Thabeet as they develop? It doesnt make sense to pay Lee with our team so screwed up.

if it is for a top 10 pick and thabeet is still on board. I would have to consider that.... But the goal this summer should be clearing out eddy or zach or both..

Briggs, you know as well as I that Thabeet just isn't going to come out this year. Calhoun is going to have him staying one more year to really fine-tune his game.

I like the idea though, I hate to trade David but right now, it just doesn't make sense to pay him all that kind of money if, like you say, our team is so screwed up.

I can give you 100% assurance that Thabeet is gone from Uconn.

Well Briggs, I know you know UConn bball better than anyone else so I'll take your word for it. It just seems odd to me, since when Calhoun thinks someone should stay he always manages gets them to stay. I guess the circumstances could be different for Thabeet since I know he's from another country and his family could really use the money. That's too bad, if he stayed one more year, he could be the #1 pick in next years draft and really fine-tune his game.

With all that said, in my mind, Thabeet is still a Top 7 pick (maybe top5) and I would love to have him if he indeed is going to be coming out, he is one of the best defensive prospects in recent memory. This year he has also shown a ton of of potential offensively and you can tell he's starting to really understand the basics and flow of the game, with every minute he plays. I think his offensive improvement will really take off soon, but I still believe he's maybe 3 or 4 years away from being a bigtime player in the NBA. That's a chance I'm willing to take though.

I'd trade Lee if we dump quite of bit of salary. Like Lee/Curry/Q or Jeff combo for something that works for us.

I would have no objection depending on circumstances.

Many picks turn out to be complete busts. Lee is a guy that can give you 13/11 as a starter on 60% FG. That's good enough for me to keep him unless you're talking about a VERY high pick.

exactly.

plus...outside of T.Hansbough and M.Beasley, this years draft is going to be sorry.

I guarantee a top 5-8 team would take a double-double guy who doesnt need the ball and could be in the top 5 in rebounding for an unproven player.

Top 5-8 playoff team, or top 5-8 lottery?

Lottery I know last year Memphis wanted to trade the 4th pick for Lee. How many guys after pick 5 has put up the numbers Lee has? You know what your getting with him and you have no idea what your getting with the draft picks

True, but you can't build for now and the future at the same time. Honestly, If we could trade Lee for the #4 this year, I'd do that. Combining two lotto picks that will both hopefully grow into quality NBA players while trimming salary, would seem to be a higher priority to me than trying to add a lotto pick to this team. I don't see how the latter makes the Knicks better next season or beyond.

I think up to 7-8 region maximum. If I could have pick 2 and pick 5 and give up Lee--i do it. Why? I can pick 2 guys I can build around. 2 guys that fit into a team concept for the long term and play the guys here or slowly diverge myself of them as I change the salary structure and more importantly the atmosphere of the team. David Lee is a great player and you have to give to get. Were not going anywhere with Randolpoh Lee Curry.

So therefore you get rid of Lee?!?!?!
