I like Obama political program. But I cannot understand why he is considered minority candidate.
He is not African American for sure. White mother and Kenyan farther. Raised in Indonesia...
The color of the skin is irrelevant - I know people with black skin from Africa, India, Israel (they are Jews from Morocco), and US. So color means nothing.
Culturally he is white from South as most of US presidents were.
A lot of political spin and no substance
Apparently you don't understand what those words mean here in America. If this was 1960 and you looked anything like Obama looks or Tiger woods for that matter, then your ass was "Negro" or "Colored". It's as simple as that. You got lumped into a group. If you by chance spoke spanish then you'd be subdivided into the hispanic group, but still a minority. The African Diaspora has given birth to a myriad of mixed race combinations wherever the slave trade took those Africans in the world. It doesn't change a thing if Obama's Father was from Africa and he is an American citizen, then he's an African American and part of a minority. That's how it is here.
People of mixed race be it African and Euro in particular were considered black, no matter what the actually complexion. IF they found out you had a black parent or even grandparent you'd be black no matter how light you looked. MOST so called African Americans have some degree of Euro DNA due to the high incidence of rape that went on during the 200+ years of slavery in the U.S. In every sense of the word Obama is a Minority. The way this country legally identified those of mixed race had always been to consider that person to be black or non-white. Thus most every African American today that has some mixed heritage is put into the same group, myself included. Just because my great grandfather was white, it hasn't made a bit of difference in how I have been perceived by the white majority in this country from the 60's thru to today. I look black outwardly and that's all that matters. I have a family that is all over the map in terms of skin tone. We go from black as night to pale as can be and at all times we've been classified as African Americans and part of a minority in this country. That's how it goes in this country.
P.S. The Native American blood we have in my family doesn't change things either.
