Looks like Sam Smith is making up things again. This one actually makes sense.

Curry could fit Riley's plans with Heat
Sam Smith | On Pro Basketball
February 18, 2008
NEW ORLEANS

Pat Riley is too quiet.

Yes, the news came over the weekend that he's a finalist for the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Yes, he made that big Shaquille O'Neal trade with Phoenix, which no one thought was possible. (O'Neal's Suns debut, by the way, looks to be Wednesday at home against Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson, the latter of whom Shaq dubbed Benedict Arnold. This is suddenly the premier game of the second half of the season, but I digress.)

But if you tell me Riley is building a team around Dwyane Wade and Shawn Marion, I tell you that you don't know Riley and you don't know NBA history. Pat "Small Ball" Riley? I don't think so.

Despite what they say in Miami, the consensus is the Heat will let Marion's deal expire after next season and head for a big man like Elton Brand, a free agent after next season whom Riley tried to sign as a free agent in 2003.

Here is Riley's history: He made his reputation coaching Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in Los Angeles. He sat out a year and then went to the Knicks to coach Patrick Ewing. He didn't even get his first Miami suntan before he traded for Alonzo Mourning. Then he swooped in and traded Lamar Odom, among others, for O'Neal.

Riley needs a big post-up presence. He doesn't really see the game otherwise, and the truth is, rarely has a team succeeded without one. The Suns' trade for O'Neal shows they believe it too.

So what about Eddy Curry?

It seems his time in New York is coming to an end. Knicks coach and President Isiah Thomas talked last week about the phasing out of big men in the NBA. And while Thomas pursued Curry and Zach Randolph, Thomas has always seen the game through a guard's eyes.

For the first time in a long time, the Knicks could be ready to subtract payroll. With Stephon Marbury entering the last season of his contract, the Knicks actually would be under the salary cap—my computer threatened to self-destruct if I ever wrote that before now—after next season with Curry off their ledger. The expiring contracts of Jason Williams and Ricky Davis could help make that happen.

If Thomas keeps his job, rebuilding the Knicks into a quicker team under the cap would be one of the most attractive situations in the NBA. That would likely mean getting rid of Curry and the team-killing Randolph, who said predictably last week: "What we're doing now ain't working. We need to do something."

Meanwhile, what other coach would believe he could motivate and put Curry in position to succeed better than Riley? How much could it possibly cost? Curry is only 25.

Riley isn't patient enough to wait two years for his team to develop, and he needs a big center. Curry could be that player.

Curry with Wade and Marion would really help Curry. He will be the 3rd option and this fits his lazy ass. A straight up trade with Miami for White Chocolate and their 1st round pick would be ideal for us. If they want more then we can send Curry, Jamal for White Chocolate, Ricky Davis and their 1st round pick. Their starting 5 would be

Guards - Wade, Jamal
Forwards - Marion, Haslem
Center - Curry

This lineup would mask Curry's deficiencies. Marion and Haslem can clean the glass and both forwards are excellent help defenders.

We get ending contracts and a lotto pick.

As much as I hate Sam Smith, I hope he gets this one right with the magistration I just concocted above.

Curry would be sure to have heart problems going thru a Riley training camp.

Eddy would have to go back to taking diet pills just to lose weight and that's when the heart issues will arise again.

Also he doesn't defend as a bigman and that is a no no with Pat Riley.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Riley gave walker grief for his body fat %- curry would never play unless riley could accept that some guys just have a different body type: fat & lazy.

Agree about that group masking his deficiencies...

Actually I see Curry helping that team more than Williams and Davis!!! So this deal would be a good one for both teams! Def. agree on Haslem and Marion masking Currys deficies too!!!
Of course Id love to get their pick but as allways this kind of trade will not be finalized!!!! Thats the problem with RUMORS!!!

Sam Smith hasn't been correct about anything in his career as.......whatever it is he does.

Curry to Miami works for both teams though. Isiah getting under the cap is what we all want right now.

As far as draft picks? A line up with Marion, wade and curry could add more wins to their club, taking them outta the race for rose or beasley.

Even though we would be helping Miami, the Knicks come off a trade like this looking like they have a plan. Knicks are desparate.........we need this trade to happen.

This is a scenario I suggested about a week ago. Right after the Heat traded Shaq. Riles ego is big enough to believe he can turn Curry around. As long as a first round pick is comming back to us, I'd definitely do it.

That's because Sam Smith has no sources. He is no different than you or I coming up with a trade scenario. Such as Crawful and Curry for JWill and Davis.

That's what Sam Smith does. He has the same credibility as you or I because he has the same sources: None.

As to Miami while I'd love to see such a thing happen to be honest I can't see how or why Riley would put up with Eddy Curry.

You would think it's well known that Curry is a fat lazy slob who is uncoachable and untrainable and he is...what he is and never will be anything more than what we saw for a period of time last season.

I guess anything is possible though and it's pretty obvious that despite denials - Isiah Thomas is calling everyone everywhere trying to remake this roster for a third time in four years. Not sure why we trust him to do that but I guess we do.

Laydens ----> Isiah Roster 1 (Marbury, Kurt, TT, etc)
Isiah Roster 1 ------> Isiah Roster 2 (Curry, Crawful, etc...)
Isiah Roster 2 ------> Isiah Roster 3 (???? Walker, Miles, LaFrentz, etc )

Why...oh why....do we deserve this? What did we ever do? Was it cheering so hard for the 1990s juggernaut Knicks that landed us in hell?

If this mother****er passed up on a tandem of

Roy/Shawn Williams for expiring contracts he deserves to be shot, if your not getting Wright back in the deal I see no benefit to this deal. We need to move Crawford before anyone and than work on building up zachs value.

Only way I'm on board with this is if Zach is going to Denver and Jamal is going to Seattle, Nate going to Memphis for Lowry

Why people think that there are bigger idiots in NBA that Isiah Tomas?
This assumption has no credible sources at all.

This trade would be gold. To get rid of Eddy Curry for expiring contracts would be a dream come true. I can't believe Pat Riley would be this stupid.

With the quickness but if riley takes on these contracts then he still loves the Knicks! He would be throwing the Knicks a huge bone.

Jamal and Curry is enough for Padre Riles to gamble his first round pick away. He gets 2 starters for 1 pick. Volume over potential is a good gamble.

There should be a written rule to not post anything Sam Smith writes on any forum and if done penalties should be enforced.

Top 3 worst beat writer of any sport easily, therefore no need to discuss any Curry/Miami scenario unless we hear from a more credible writer.

Says the Knicks fan from a Knicks fan that thinks the same way.

Haslem
Marion
Curry
Wade
Devin Harris
Craw?

Marvelous! Who needs a draft pick? This team is ready to roll.

Knicks? 2 lottery picks? Cap relief? Pain relief.

That Miami lineup would be easily Top 3 in the East and Riley has mentioned on more that one occasion that his window is closing very soon. There are no Dwight Howard, Yao Ming sure fire type players in this draft. He would not be crucified too much if this doesn't pan out.

On for our point of view, this gets a jump start on our dismantling of team shipwreck. We only need Denver and Zeke to pull the rumored Zach Randolph trade and off we go.

Buyout Dinglebury baby!

first of all, as long as Zach's contract is on our books there is no way we would be under the cap after next season even after Marbury & Malik's contracts expire & we unload Curry for an expiring, because D Lee needs to be resigned & he's going to command at least $6-7 mil per if not more, not to mention all the other roster spots that will need to be filled on the team... so Sam Smith is dead wrong on that one... he needs to check his figures before writing up his news articles.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Why let factual information get in the way of a good story? It's the Sam Smith way.
