Trade Curry, Chandler, and Collins and $3 mill for Ben Wallace and 2008 1st round pick.
Why Chicago would do it -
It is clear that the Bulls are tiring of Wallace. He is a lockeroom distraction and is not playing up to his contract. But the biggest problem is that they have 3 bigs in Wallace, Noah, and Thomas who all play solid defense but cannot score or command a double-team. Curry solves that problem and balances out a roster that has alot of jump shooters but few post players. Curry's salary is decent for a big man and in Chandler and Collins the Bulls add two cheap prospects that can help them out at the 2 guard spot, where Ben Gordon is a defensive liability. Chandler has the potential to actually be a very good SG/SF. The Bulls will want to keep their pick but really how many young guys can you have on one team. In Hinrich, Gordon, Deng, Thomas, Noah, Duhon, and now Chandler, Collins, and Curry, the Bulls will have about 7-8 players all under 27. They don't really need another young prospect. The $3 mill should also be a nice bonus to help convince them to include the pick.
Why the Knicks do it -
Simply put, either Curry or Randolph has to go. Together they make the worst defensive frontcourt in the league. Since Randolph has shown to be the more skilled of the two, I would like to keep him. Wallace gives us a defensive presence we have lacked (even at his age). He has only 2 years left on his contract so it is not a huge commitment. He should compliment Randolph and Lee well. The 1st round pick should be around 10-11 and will allow us to take a flyer on a young center or some other prospect to fill a need. With our first pick, we will likely address the hole at PG and there should be at least 1 solid prospect at that position if we pick 5 or higher. At 10-11, we can go big and try to get a center to replace Wallace eventually.
In short, the trade makes sense for both teams.
