Just saw this on the ESPN ticker. Not sure who he was traded for just yet. Someone will have to update the details as it becomes available. I'm on my way out the door.

Did the Nuggets get Artest yet or did that just fall through?

Sources: Kings close to trading Bibby to Hawks
By Martin McNeal - mmcneal@sacbee.com

eran guard Mike Bibby to the Atlanta Hawks for guards Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue and forwards Lorenzen Wright and Shelden Williams, sources told The Bee on Saturday.

The deal is contingent upon league approval that could come as early as today. According to sources who did not want to be identified because of ongoing trade discussions, there is a 1 p.m. conference call scheduled between the two teams and league officials.

When reached Saturday morning, Bibby said he was a bit surprised to hear Atlanta was the destination, but not that he was going to be traded.

"I had some good times here in Sacramento," said Bibby, who became known with the Kings as one of the league's better clutch shot-makers. "Sometimes you need a change and you never know where that might take you. I just prayed and asked for what might be the best for my family and this is what happened, so you can't question it.

"I'll always have love for the people in Sacramento, the Maloofs and (President) Geoff (Petrie)."

Dallas and New Jersey this week worked out a trade that would send point guards Jason Kidd to the Mavericks and Devin Harris to the Nets as the central figures. However, the trade has not been able to get league approval because of a contract situation involving Dallas swingman Devean George.

The reasons behind the deal for the Kings and the Hawks are clear and different. Atlanta is a young team attempting to make the playoffs for the first time since the 1998-99 season. Sacramento, meanwhile, is trying to clear salary cap space to become a player on the free-agency market as well as increasing its ability to make trades. Each of the players acquired by the Kings has an expiring contract.

Atlanta makes its only visit to Sacramento on Wednesday, and starting for the Hawks in his first game, conceivably, could be Bibby. His expected departure removes the final piece from the Kings core that consistently challenged to make the NBA Finals during the first half of this decade, but never could get over the hump.

Wow. Never saw that coming. So they are looking to make the playoffs? Looking to be a legit playoff contender next year?

Good for Atlanta cuz the fans deserve it.

Throw us a bone somebody.

Oh don't you worry, there's plenty more to go around and Zeke will put his hand in the filled up paper bag and come up with something.

It's on ok trade for atlanta I guess. I'm not sure where the Hawks go from here though. Assuming this trade guarantees playoffs for them they still just a playoff team. They'll need more if they want to be considered a contender, and Bibby isn't exactly a spring chicken.

I like this move a lot of the Hawks. They are right there in the playoff race and for now this could put them over the top. Shelden could be a good young player, but you might as well give him up for Bibby if you've got Horford, Marvin, Smith etc. up front.

Bibby gives them a stabilizing vet PG. A guy who knows how to finish games. One of the missing pieces for their team. The Hawks young players are ready to take the next step and this should help them get there.

TKF should be somewhat excited he's down in the ATL and catches their games quite often.

exactly- i think it was a good deal for the hawks too. bibby, joe johnson, smith, marvin, horford is a greatl ineup - theyre turning into the blazers east. bibby will be good for that team -they could get 2 the 2nd round of the playoffs. shelden wasn't looking great and with marvin and horford he was expendable. I think the kings couldve gotten more, plus i wouldve liked to see bibby on the cavs with lebron

Great trade for the knicks. Just as nyballer puts it, great lineup! Good thing for the atl fans. Looks like the playoffs atmosphere will surround atlanta..

Now I can't wait to see what Joe Johnson does now IN ATLANTA , he was the ball hog as the sg .

Will he allow Bibby to dribble the ball to set everybody up now ?

I will be watching everygame they play to see if Joe Johnson defers to bibby as the hawks pg.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Hopefully Beno Udrih sees an increase in minutes. I picked him up in anticipation of this. As soon as Artest goes, Garcia's numbers go up. And guess who's got him? My team is taking EnySpree's fantasy league.

good pick up for atlanta.

sacramento basically just dumped him (although did get shelden in return).

few things: west is split - a bunch of teams buying to win now, and a bunch of teams selling to get cap space (throwing in the towel the next year or two).

also, atlanta has money tied up in a few players and must give josh smith an extension (probably starting around $10 mil). so where does that leave childress? looks like he may be the odd man out. i bet he could obtained by some team for a #1 pick in the upcoming draft.
