Something telling occurred just a day ago and went unnoticed, at least in this forum...Thomas has said everything but Curry is a bust and the game has moved away from having a big man in the pivot.. A portion of Berman's article in the Post:

Before Thomas was tossed, he tossed Curry, yanked from the game by Thomas two minutes into the third quarter. Thomas admitted in his most damning statement yet the club is phasing out Curry. He played just 9:18, scoring two points, leaving him in a state of confusion, with the trading deadline one week away.

Thomas said the NBA has changed and Curry may not have a steady role.

"What's happening in this league is a lot of teams are playing really small," Thomas said. "It's a slow phasing out of the big man in this league. A lot of teams are playing really small and shooting the 3 ball, and if you don't adjust and adjust quickly you can find yourself down 12, 15 points.

"There'll be some nights he'll be very useful. There'll be some nights, the team is so small, it's difficult to play the big guys."

Berman was on WFAN last night talking about this and the host asked Berman why didn't Thomas use Curry in the post against Boston because no one can stop him on that team...Berman said it is very puzzling and it is his opinion that Thomas is doing this to get fired...

It's really sad that the Knicks can't even execute a firing when the party really deserves it...He has to go the extra mile to get it done himself...

I agree with Isiah. Basketball is not about big men anymore.

It's just another example of Layden's incompetence. Layden should never traded our first round picks for Curry. Oh well, now Thomas will just have to use Curry the best he can.

just backs up the lack of plan.

on one hand, isiah wants to get athletic - and most of his picks have been.

but his trades have been for fat, plodding available guys.

And think about it- most players that can be had for a trade, are usually being traded because their clubs want to get rid of them.

This sums up Isiah's biggest fault as GM. He's never had a plan.

I don't get it. He should have been fired long time ago.

Like I said, if no moves are made Isiah should be handed his walking papers. He shouldn't be aloud to see March as a member of the Knicks organization if he doesn't make a move. There would be no point to continue this garbage.

A new GM should have been brought in earlier- there have been a slew of deals being down or talked about where we might have been able to participate as a 3 way partner or where we could have shipped pieces away and gotten back less money & picks.

When everybody will start pricing Isiah and make Dolan responsible for Knicks fall - Isiah will be fired.
For now he is ascapegoat, so why fire him.

Dolan is doing the right thing. Isiah has cost him so much money and time over the last few years. Isiah shouldn't get fired make him rot with his team or quit. I don't see why Isiah should be fired and walk away with huge sums of money.

This is what Isiah said just 8 months ago:

"We’re a power team and we win games by pounding it inside and going to the foul line and rebounding the basketball. We improved in this area. Also, points in the paint, we also improved in the rebounding category. We do a good job of defending the paint. We didn’t do as good of a job of defending the three-point line as we will did this year. There’s no mistake about the type of team that we’re trying to build. We’re a power, athletic team and we put the ball inside and we want the ball in the paint."

And that was just a few months after he claimed last season was a success, despite only 33 wins and no playoffs, because they established Curry as a franchise cornerstone.

What a ****ing *******. If he's still the GM for this year's draft, I'm finished as a Knicks fan and that includes posting on this board.

We all agree that the team was flawed coming into the season, so to me that's not really the point of the season. Unless he made a move to bring in the players we all agreed were needed to balance this team, we all knew it was a flawed group. Thus we had to go with a "power" style since that was basically was kind of team we had. At least if you start with Steph, Zach and Curry and Q.

IMO It's not so much about style of play as it is about executing your scheme and imposing your will on the other team. If you're team plays good team ball almost any style can be effective. Isiah is using excuses to cover up the fact that his team wasn't mentally prepared to play winning ball. The team didn't share the ball and didn't play as a unit on D. This leads to lots of losing. Even if you don't have great talent or even a well balanced team, there should be a minimum level of solid BB on display and this team hasn't done that all year for 48 mins. We may get it for stretches of time, but almost never a complete game. This is squarely on the head of Isiah. What he focused on in camp all the way thru to regular season practice is in question. You can teach 2nd graders to run give and go's and pick and roll's and to make sure to share the ball before a shot is jacked up.

Making a habit of sharing the ball as a team is a mindset that can be established on any team regardless of it's makeup. It's much harder on this team granted, since we have a higher % of selfish players, but that's why you as a coach can use the bench as a tool. You can simply bench the selfish guys and play the guys who will share the ball. Isiah hasn't done that. He's stuck with the same guys mostly.

Isiah is at fault for looking to bench Steph, when a guy like Q has managed to stay in his position all year whenever he's been healthy. It's just a lot of little things that add up to failure. Should Curry actually be worse at passing the ball and playing defense and rebounding? Should Lee who is showing more growth not be allowed a shot to start? How about more mins for Balkman? Is this about this season only or shouldn't we be looking to the future now? How about Chan, Mardy and Morris getting more time to see what they can do? It's not about wins anymore at this point, so why haven't we seen some steps taken to look forward?

I agree that it is cool to play to your strength but coach (and players) should work on weaknesses first.
In Knicks case Isiah just showed that he is lazy and incompetent buffoon.
I am not sure if it is something there to discuss... It's clear like day.
And his players are mostly of the same type - lazy bastards with oversized ego.
Nothing can be achieved without hard work and dedication. And no talent can help to change it.

Actually Isiah is finally paying dividends for us. Him wanting to get fired is causing us to lose many games which means higher draft pick. So I guess you can say, Isiah will be leaving us on a "good note."

Except that given all these trade rumors floating around, given that Dolan has said he wants to make Isiah earn his money, that we may actually see that ever-increasing-in-value-pick get dealt for another one of Isiah's "franchise cornerstones".
