Zach Randolph: We need changes

BY FRANK ISOLA
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

Thursday, February 14th 2008, 4:00 AM

BOSTON - Zach Randolph feels that Isiah Thomas should delve into the trade market to shake up the Knicks' roster because "what we're doing now ain't working.

"We need to do something," Randolph said following Boston's 111-103 victory over the Knicks on Wednesday night.

When asked if he expects to still be with the team following next week's trading deadline, Randolph said: "I don't know. There has been a lot of talk. I don't know what is going to happen."

Thomas sounds as if he's given up on the Randolph-Eddy Curry experiment. Although the pair still start, they rarely play together during the course of the game. Last night, Curry played eight minutes in the first half and lasted two minutes into the third quarter before being benched.

"What's happening in this league is that a lot of teams are playing really small," said Thomas, momentarily forgetting that the Lakers acquired Pau Gasol and the Suns traded for Shaquille O'Neal last week. "It is slow phasing out of the big man is what is happening in this league, it seems like. A lot of teams are playing really small and shooting the three-ball, and if you don't adjust and adjust quickly you can find yourself down 12 to 15 points."

Thomas is looking to trade either Randolph or Curry, which is an indictment of his big offseason move. When Thomas traded for Randolph he vowed to turn the Knicks into a power team.

Last night, Curry had a telling remark when he was asked about his role.

"I always feel like I have a role here until they move me," he said. "If they decide to do that, then I don't have a role here. Until then, I'm here for a reason and we'll see what happens."

Should we list the Top teams in this league and how big their front lines are and minutes they play? Even if he's right, which he's not wasn't this the case prior to him making a trade for Randolph. Shouldn't he have traded for shooting in the summer? If he's right does this mean he's trading one or more of our Bigs for a small(s)? Does this mean Chandler gets off the bench since he can 'shoot the 3 ball?'

Isiah is full of ****. this isn't some new phenomena. the rule changes in the summer of 04 predicated the style of play 95% of the league has adopted.

countless acquisitions and never once did he actually focus on getting swing players who can dribble pass or shoot in an uptempo setting.

05 draft he passed on the likes of Granger and Garcia for Frye and Nate

06 draft he passes on Rondo for Balkman

07 draft he takes Chandler who seemingly fits the mold but doesn't get any pt

I won't even touch the trades and free agency dealings

the stop underrating David Lee movement 1. FIRE MIKE 2. HIRE MULLIN 3. PAY AVERY 4. FREE NATE!!!

Basically what it means is that Isiah has run out of excuses that doesn't contradict things he said earlier. This happened some time ago.

I'm sick of Isiah. It doesn't matter what's hapening in the league. Its about putting the right group of players together and having a gameplan for them to sucseed.

I'm done until something happens.

Is there any point in listening to any words that come out of Zeke's mouth anymore?

Even if he wasn't full of it, no one employed by MSG can truly speak their minds anyway
Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

it's a ridiculous excuse. the two teams that best embody the "go small shoot the 3" paradigm are golden state and phoenix. and phoenix just invested in shaq, and to a (much) lesser extent GS went with webber. the celtics went small because everyone over 6'9 on their roster got hurt. and we still got smoked.

What is there left to say? Zach is a ****ing moron, can't keep his mouth shut, can't stay away from trouble, and the fact that Isiah Thomas traded for this guy is one of the biggest mistakes of his tenure. And that's saying something.

quite a few teams do play 2 small forwards and it works when you have those 6'8-6'9 225-230lb forwards who are not just athletic but actually have hands and have touch on their shots. 3pt range is a bonus.

to name a few...

Hawks start Williams and Smith
Philly AI2 and Young
Miami Marion and Wright
LAC Thornton and Maggette
Ind Granger Dunleavy
CHA Wallace and Richardson

seriously, I don't think you can get much worse than the MSG media policy followed up by a sexual harassment suit where you are found guilty.

Yeah, he says the league is playing small after going against a team that if it weren't for injuries, would have Kevin Garnett, Glenn Davis and Kendrick Perkins who have all very much helped the Celtics.

of those teams only the Hawks and Pacers have played all year like that.

Philly 6-3 with Young and AI2 starting

LAC 2-2 with Thornton and Maggette.

as for CHA I don't feel like going thru Wallace's in and out of the lineup against when they went with McGiness and Felton as the backcourt to see the actual record playing J-Rich at the 3 and Wallace at the 4.

The funny part is that Isiah will probably trade both ZBo and Eddy for overpaid longterm-contracted small forwards who will play behind Q and JJ2 and then complain that he doesn't have a center.
