Hi basket-friends.
OK- I haven't posted a gig notice in a bit- I try and save it for the cooler venues.
This is one of them- NUBLU is on Ave C btwn 4th and 5th st- there's no sign, just a little blue light outside
$10 cover and they have a good bar with nice fancy euro beers - NUBLU is a cool place to hang out.
BILL McHENRY tenor saxophone (yours truly)
DUANE EUBANKS trumpet - Duane is Kevin's brother of tonight show fame- he's my favorite trumpeter of his generation
BEN STREET on bass - world class
RJ MILLER on drums- he actually made it to a UK gathering! A bad boy himself.

anyway, we play tonight and every Monday this month from 10pm to 1am. Hope some of you can make it.

From my googling......it seems like a nice spot.

I may head out there for a few. I could use some jazz in my life.

Hey man, I play out in NYC every other week and don't post those gigs!

haha...

Maybe I should?

Not sure if people will be into what I spin so I keep it on the low low. Maybe though.

Yeah, it's just my regular gig so I don't post it. My group, The Impossebulls, was going to perform with Public Enemy (whose label, Slam Jamz we're on) during their recent shows here, but members couldn't make it so we reneged.

Respect to you as an artist and performer of "non-pop" music 93Buick! Part of my interest, pursuing an MSW, is to work on facilitating more opportunities and money for folks who aren't doing just mainstream music and therefore don't get paid as much for their work.

I have sense a big problem with the American music scene, including NYC, and part of why I am planning to bounce by the end of the year. There was a fantastic documentary I caught on PBS recently narrated by Forrest Whitaker that went into the downslide of American music culture into corporate manufactured entertainers that are far more about selling an image than anything else.

Let me not hijack your thread though.

Congrats on the recent positive press too.

Peace!

I hope I can make one of these gigs Buick, but I have to be honest -- Mondays are a struggle for me right now. In fact everyday is pretty rough right now. Between my band and school -- there's not much left. Keep hustling, bro!

PresIke, good luck and keep cats informed. I know I just said I ain't too available, but if the right date pops up -- I'll come through and peep your crew. I've been on the verge of forming a hip hop project myself.

Peace, eVil!

I'm down with checking your group sometime too, and if you ever are interested in a DJ to play with you all live, like to do cuts/scratches, I'd be interested. I have done that for my group, and several others primarily, although now I'm doing more production work.

Actually, the gigs I was referring to was my own DJing live. I play every other Sat. at a lounge Uptown, called Sip. It's a real chill spot, with a good vibe. It's modeled a bit after my podcast called 'Indelible Beats' which is an eclectic mix of what I consider to be dope beats and rhythms of all genres for dancing or 'head nodding.' Of course, I've been fortunate enough to have worked with and be on the label of my idols, Public Enemy, which I sometimes still can't believe, but I love and play sht more than hip-hop now-a-days.

Ok, here's a cheap promo for my gig to hijack 93Buick's thread:

I have always been down with hardcore, punk and rock, even though I don't play a lot of it live. I used to do a crazy fusion show in college that mixed hardcore/metal and whatever I felt like which was great.

What I can say is I always support artists/musicians trying to do there thing in a city that seems less and less conducive to living that life, unless you have certain assets many don't. That's actually part of why I am so interested in doing the work I do outside of music.

Peace and mad respect to all musicians and artists!

I been to Sip before. I used to pop up in there to get away from my crazy ass baby mama for a drink when they first opened.

I may pop up in there one day.

Eny: Hey whats up man?
Pres: (with the wtf look on his face) Yeah?
Eny: Yo I'm enyspree!
Pres: (placing the gun back on saftey) Oh ight...what up?
Eny: Chillin. Yeah how bout them Knicks?
Pres: (taking the saftey off) Get the **** out of my face you fag and leave your wallet on the booth on your way out, Bitch!!!
Eny: Oh no not again!

haha...you funny eny.

That sounds exactly like what I imagined the convo to go too...haha

Naw...chill...

You should pull through some time though. They just did some renovations which are pretty cool, and the mixed crowd is cool, although sometimes a challenge when spinning, with so many different tastes.

I was there last night since my boy DJ Know1 was playing, and I like chilling there anyway. Good peoples, and less b.s. than a lot of other spots, especially downtown (and I'm from there).

Thanks to MARV and ENY for making the hang!
Martin Johnson of NYSun fame was there too so they all met.
Then 3 supermodels whisked them away and I'm not sure what happened after that- I had to head back to Brooklyn.
Evil and DJ- you missed out.

what a great show. never saw a man work a saxophone like that with orange fingers before!!

buick gave us a great shout-out from the stage and went into a monologue for the audience about the state of the knicks serious! it was hysterical!

sounds were amazing. the music was hypnotic, enveloping, transporting. all of that!

nice club. real chill vibe.

as always a pleasure to hang with eny and buick. and buick's drummer rj who had come to bbq and a game with us once before.

eny and i got to have a long chat between sets with the writer from the ny sun, who appears to be quite the hatter and who said he reads uk a couple of times a week

great night.
