ISIAH WILL BE CHASIN' JASON
By MARC BERMAN

January 30, 2008 -- LOS ANGELES - A day after saying he had "no superstars," Knick coach Isiah Thomas said he will ask the Nets what it would take to land the on-the-block Jason Kidd.
The Nets have been forever looking for a big center, and Eddy Curry could be involved in a potential deal, possibly along with Renaldo Balkman, whom the Nets like.

Yesterday, Thomas finally admitted the Knicks no longer are built around Curry/Zach Randolph inside, and that the club needs to excel in two styles, not just as a power, inside team.

It's a longshot Net president Rod Thorn would deal with the Knicks, other than to raise the bidding. Thorn has admitted the offers have been weak. Knick executive VP Glen Grunwald already inquired about Vince Carter recently, offering Randolph.

Kidd's bombshell that it's time to move on traveled to L.A., where the Lakers, too, should have interest again.

"I think our business is to find out," Thomas said. "When players are on the market, you try to find out. You have to be interested. You have to look."

With Stephon Marbury likely out of future plans, Thomas considers Kidd among the game's elite point guards despite Kidd's age - he turns 35 on March 23.

Curry doesn't appear thrilled to be a Knick. He's complained about his role in the offense on more than one occasion, most recently after the Golden State game.

When asked if he wouldn't mind a trade, Curry laughed tellingly, then told The Post, "It's been tough, but I don't want to run from my problems. I had tough moments here, but good moments here. Whenever [Thomas] says it's time for me to go, I go."

Asked if he feels Thomas is looking to deal him, Curry said, "Ask him."

Said Thomas: "From this point on, we have to keep building and we have to play two different styles. Some nights we play small-sized teams, some nights big teams."

*

Asked his Super Bowl prediction, Jack Nicholson said from his courtside seat, "49ers." ... Spike Lee attended Knick shoot-around at UCLA and last night's contest. ... Magic Johnson met with Thomas before the game.

Curry/Balkman for Kidd doesn't work under the cap, it comes up way short, even if you add in Fred Jones, we are still way short. Would they take back Malik Rose to make the deal work? I doubt it.

Eddy + Craf + whatever for Kid...
Does it work?

It works for me... Lee will have 30/15 if he will start with Kid.
Same true for Zack...

The only thing in that article that isn't pure speculation is that Kidd wants a trade.

Kidd is in the Marbury range for contract. We would have to include Marbury for one of the youngins to be included. OR send Curry, QRich and Balk for Kidd. I think right now Kidd is only worth one or two of our young ones like Balk, Chandler, Mardy and Morris added with Dinglebury's contract. Anything else would be overpaying at this point of Kidd's career.

LOL. Isiah changes team foundations more often than Misterearl changes his undah-weahs.

It's unreal. The guy still has no plan.

What did we give up for Curry again?

If Kidd came to New York we would have to trade him by the summer, because his displeasure with the Knick organization would be alot louder than it is with New Jersey.

I worry about Kidd being unhappy but he is what this team needs. We need a strong leader on the floor who knows how to win games. Kidd can teach these guys how to win. Look what he did for Richard Jefferson and Kenyon Martin. I would want him on the team, but I would also want NJ to either take back a contract like Rose, or give us a draft pick, or ideally, I would like to get Sean Williams.

I ideally would want a deal of Curry, Balkman, and Rose for Kidd and Sean Williams.

if kidd doesnt want to play for the nets, he definitely wont want to play here...he's too old to do us any good anyway, we wont make the playoffs this year and he'll bolt after his contract is up.

why would they do that? Parker's so much younger & they've already won championships w/Parker as their PG... why mess w/a good mix?

Greg Anthony stated Parker could play alongside Kidd. They don't necessarily have to break the effective Parker/Duncan formula. At 6'4", Parker could slide at the 2. Not sure what they'd compensate NJ with though asset wise.

sure, if u were to add Kidd to their already potent roster i can see why they'd do it, but not if they had to give up Parker in the process... the Spurs don't have any contracts that would match up tho... Manu's only making $9 mil this year, which means if they're not dealing Parker then they'd have to throw in Bowen, Finley & Horry to even out the dollars... at that point it wouldn't be worth it for the Spurs to do the deal.
