excellent. i guess the mets prospects arent as bad as people thought. Santana/Martinez/Maine/Perez/El Duce or Pelfrey. How sweet it is.

This is what I wrote almost 2 months ago and as always it's right on the money.
Bill Smith played this one terribly. He got played by Boston, pretending that they were really in this to make a trade for Santana instead of just looking to up the price for the Yankees. Boston had no intention of making a trade for Santana unless they would accept a low ball offer. If they gave Santana $23-25M a year for 6-7 years, what were they gonna say when Beckett came to renegotiate with a championship that he won them in his pocket? Add Dice-K and there's no way they were going to pay $60M a year for 3 starters.

The Twins had the best offer that they were going to get for Santana when the Yankees relented and offered Hughes. Nobody else could offer a top end starter prospect like that and still pay Santana what he wanted. Smith got cute and couldn't pull the trigger because he misread the market.

Santana might still get traded but it won't be for a package as good as the Yankees were offering.

It isn't that they aren't as bad but they aren't as good as what the Twins could have gotten. The Twins GM Bill Smith screwed himself and left himself with only the Mets offer. Good for the Mets.

Buster Olney is saying that people around baseball think that the Twins were forced to accept their 4th best offer.

Like people said, the Mets prospects aren't that good. Now their farm is completely depleted. They better win.

The farm isnt depleted. A year ago these guys were nothing, prospects are always being signed and new ones will emerge.

So who do they have? Yeah, because it's just that easy to find good young pitching.

Oh, so now they are good young pitching prospects? Projected #3 starters. There is still FMart and others. Plus we have many picks in the first round and a half of the draft.

I'm not saying that those guys are necessarily good, just that you seem to think that it's easy to find good young pitching prospects in general.

So you're saying that over the last few years the Mets have only been able to find prospects who are projected #3 starters? But you think it'll be easy to find good pitching prospects?

It's Martinez and that's about it. Who exactly are the others? And what pitchers do they have? If Pelfrey is the best the Mets have to back up their staff, they're in trouble, regardless of having Santana to front their staff.

I see a parade of journeymen starters becoming Mets and having to pitch big games for them. We all know how that worked last September for the Mets.

in 1 sentence you infer that the Mets prospects aren't as worthless as people thought they were, in the other you suggest they're no big loss... consistency issues?
