Simple: One traded away his #1 picks for an unproven Eddie Curry while the other traded his multiple picks to get the #1overall, which turned out to be Eli Manning.

Now one team is headed towards the lottery AGAIN while the other is headed to the BIG SHOW!

The Future. GO KNICKS!

to be fair until this year there've been huge question marks surrounding Eli Manning... it's also not out of the realm of possibility that having Phillip Rivers & Shawn Merriman on the roster in Eli's place could have brought this team to the SB by now also.

no one's complaining now that the Gints are in... it's always a gamble to trade away multiple picks for any player, but u can understand the reasoning behind it.

Ernie gave away the store for Eli. Didn't have to get raped so hard.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

And in all fairness, Eli basically forced his way into NY after threatening to not play in SD.
With that said, Isiah damn well better hold onto the draft pick this year. Even if it's not #1, there still seems to be alot of talent to go around in the top 10.

If Isiah Thomas is still around to make that pick, does it really matter?

Accorsi did better w/his late round picks, but his 1st rounders left MUCH to be desired... Ron Dayne, the Mike Sweetney of football.

haha... but in all seriousness, Eli has his moments but I don't think he is anything special YET. Farve looked like he didnt want to play yesterday. GB's strategy was pass pass pass pass...gee i wonder if the Giants know what we're doing, pass pass pass.

Jerry Reese made solid moves to put the giants in this situation, WTF you talking about???? Now Im no Giant's fan, but I was worried for a minute about my Black peeples in Front Offices jobs in New York. Between Herm, Willie and Isiah, I was pretty much thinking we couldn't get it done. Thankyou JERRY!!!!

Don't forget who his director of college scouting was when he started hitting on late round picks. The one with the small school bent that started taking some sick athletes starting with the 2003 draft....

yo V, was Accorsi credited w/picking Brandon Jacobs, Osi & Kiwanuka or was that all Reese?

Let's be serious here. In the end, the GM makes the decision to make the final selection. Accorsi should be credited for those drafts just as Reese should be credited for the ones under his tenure. I don't see many people thanking Brendan Suhr for drafting Nate Robinson or belittling him for drafting Frye. Isiah made the call.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Those were very much "Reese" specials, though maybe a little less so with Kiwanuka. You can see a distinctive shift in philosophy when Reese took over as director of college scouting starting with that Osi draft. Ernie liked to draft a lot of big school guys, especially big 10 guys, who had a lot of name value, but weren't really elite athletes. Guys like Dayne, Short, Nick Griesen, Joe Montgomery, Pete Monty etc. With Reese all of a sudden you started to see us draft these freakish athletes with great measurables and great production at their respective schools- but not always at a big name school. He always had some input as a scout, but as he got more responsbilitity you could see the shift in talent he brought in.

Accorsi was also well known for being very loose lipped with the press and telegraphing his moves as he did with drafting Dayne and Shockey. He also wasn't fully on board with TC as coach and undermined that a little. TC was the choice of the Mara's and even though it was a foregone conclusion he'd be hired, he flirted with hiring a guy like Nick Saban whom he always liked. Because of that it was speculated we ended up losing out on a couple of assistants who were the first choice of Coughlin like Gregg Williams (who became the Skins' DC) and Bill Callahan (the old raiders coach, who took the Nebraska job).

We have good coordinators now, but imagine if we didn't have to sit the through the first 2-3 years with Tim Lewis and John Hufnagel.

The thing to be said here is that Jerry Reese is a very shrewd talent evaluator. Look at our roster now vs. the Super Bowl team in 2000. If you look at that 2000 team there are 15 guys you wonder how they were in the NFL. With this roster, every last guy looks like he can play or is a prospect for the future- whether its Geoff Pope, Adam Koets, Manny Wright...etc, you have a good athlete with some potential rather than some overachiever without much talent.

And he understand the business side of this game, as he demonstrated by cutting Luke Petigout. He was right- Luke couldn't stay healthy and he wasn't a great presence in the locker room. While he wasn't a bad player, we improved by subtracting him and having 16 games of continuity along the OL. That's a move that a lot of people wouldn't have made. And not to mention cutting Emmmons, Arrington etc. A lot of big names. And to find 2 players like Hixon and Hedgecock who are major contributors to this team in the middle of the season? Wow.
