No trades but it was probably a good thing right now because we have three awsome picks. Sweetney may not have the talent or potential as some but he will come in and contribute right away and is definitely a solid upgrade over Weatherspoon and Harrington. Lampe will help if he gets out of his current contract and the knicks don't really need him to come over right now, but should because he can probably help right now. He is the steal of the draft and while many people wanted him with the 9th pick, its unbelieveable how this whole thing worked out and new york was able to get him with the 30th pick. Vranes is a solid pick because its not that often you get a 7'6 guy in shoes this late in the draft. If he can be half what Shawn Bradley is now than we've had another steal in the draft. I mentioned this guy a couple weeks ago on this board and felt he was an excellent pick for the 39th pick. I couldn't have seen this draft go any better. Thoughts?

Only a fool would come on here and say NY did bad in the draft. Layden came thru and people are mad because he did the right thing!
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

i think this draft would have been perfect if the knicks had picked Collison at #9.im upset about passing on him.the knicks would been very big at this draft but they picked 6-8 Sweetney.although im not angry.Sweetney was a inside scorer and has the potential of becoming a LJ,I HOPE!Im happy about 7'0-Lampe and 7'4-Vranes.I rate this draft a B+.Layden covered what we needed.GOOD JOB!Now if he could come up with a trade it would be awesome.

i think that the knicks had a decent draft. no ignorant picks not really. i'm more happier that they didn't take kaman let it be known sweetney would not have been my first choice but better him than kaman.

we didn't get none of the young high schoolers. outlaw went to portland. i don't know about lampe but it is looking like the milos thing all over again. it wouldn't be the knicks if they didn't have people screaming wait unitl miols and lampe make it to new york.

vranes? some 7' 6 clown i imagine

if they can get milos and lampe to come over the hard-working image is gone forever

but overall i'm not upset with the picks. not really. i think they did the best with what they could do. at least sprewell will be back.

i couldn't stop laughing when they were chanting over-rated to lebron darko and t j ford.
all those years as a fan and now i'm the anti-knick. life is crazy aint it.

I hope so. Now I want Uche Nswondu-Amadi as a free agent. He did not get drafted. Then release Nailon, Postell and Pope.

Then trade Spree for Tim Thomas of Milwaukee straight up.

Then trade KT and Ward for Nick Van Exel and Rigaudeau of Dallas.

Lineup
C-Vranes/Doleac
PF-Sweetney/Uche/Harrington
SF-Tim Thomas/Lampe
SG-Houston/Anderson
PG-Van Exel/Eisley/Williams

Hmmmm.

OMG!!!
The knicks get a A++++++ from me!

I was so happy that our 9th pick was up and Lampe was still available. Then they took Sweetney who I liked but I wanted Lampe. Then as the draft moves along I noice we have a shot at Lampe at 30th I start going crazy. I was afraid Dallas would take him at 29 cause they like those euros but they didn't and NY got him!! So we got to Awesome players!! What was key is that we had the 1st pick in the 2nd round. The reason Lampe didn't go in the first is because 1st rounders get gauranteed money and no one wants to pay him while he plays in Europe for 2 years. So whoever had the 30th pick was gonna take him and that was us!! No wonder Scott Layden was so happy yesterday. I bet he payed Real Madrid to say that Lampe isn't going to the NBA for 2 years so the knicks could get him! Who knows maybe there's a way he can come over for next season, if not I don't mind waiting 2 years. We Got 2 great lottery players I can't believe this!

And on top of it They drafted Slavko Vranes who I wanted at 39! I don't know why does fools were chanting Marcus Hatten. I'm feeling so lucky, maybe I should go play the lottery!!!

Scott Layden you've made up for all the stupid moves in the past.
Go New York Go New York Go!!

The thing that dissapoints me is that sweetney is a duplicate of what we have now, maybe he will prove me wrong, but I don't think we have another Elton Brand here. I think sweetney is better than Othella and spoon but that isn't saying much..

Lampe could be the steal, if the knicks can satisfy Real Madrid, then Lampe can play right now, the kid has lottery talent and was supposed to be right there with Darko in the talent department. If this kid turns out to be close to what they say his upside is, then in 2 years we will have a nice player on our hands...
Anyone who sits around and waits for the lottery to better themselves, either in real life or in sports, Is a Loser............... TKF

I have to admit that I kind of like this years draft!
I dont know much about Sweetney, but the stuff I read got me convinced somewhat, that hes got some skills down low!(and thats what we severely need!!!)
Lampe at 30 is unbelievable!!! I dont think he should allready be compared to Nowitzki but im sure he's a REAL steal that far in the draft!
Vranes is heigh!!! But hes far more of a project than Lampe! Thats all to say about him!
Now its waiting for Layden to follow up this draft with the FA!
Im kind o scared that hes going to smash our good feelings from draftnight right there!

excatly....Spoon and Othella will be gone in the future sweetney will hopefully be a great knick for years to come. He is already our only low post player. Thomas, othella and spoon sure aren't. I can't see Sweetney playing center for us with his huge arms and great work ethic. I just jope dice plays next year. How does this sound?
c-sweetney
pf-dice
sf-spree
sg-houston
pg-eisely
bench: thomas, ward, othella, spoon, doleac and anderson

Then in 2-3 years
c-Sweetney
pf-Dice(if he's healthy enough hopefully)
sf-Lampe
sg-houston(who has move up to a higher level after last season)
pg-milos
bench:spree, Thomas, Vranes(he's gotta be better thank Travis Knight)

This is all assuming Spree & Thomas don't get traded. The knicks can even further improve by trading them or not resigning Dice and instead singing a Free Agent. Bottom line is its looking real good. I did not think the Knicks would be good again this decade. Lastnight changed that!

I just got back home from the draft and can honestly say that I'm satisfied. Sweetney, Lampe (who I thought would've been taken way before 30) and Vranes are solid picks. We finally got bigger and stronger up front.

Now we just gotta clean up the current roster. Pope and Knight can go. Charlie Ward can get bought out. Hopefully Dyess is healthy- it would be even more of a boost to our frontline with him there. KT can be traded (especially if Dyess comes back) for a PG. Spoon and Othella can be throw ins if the deal is right.

I won't let Scott LayDown off the hook yet, though. One draft can't make up for years of mistakes. My memory is nowhere near that shallow. Plus, LayDown still has time to screw it all up like he usually does...

We can only pray that it's gonna be different this time...

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

I give Layden high marks. Sweetney is better than Collison now and in the future too. Lampe fell in his lap. He needs to get him here now, that will take a GM.

Vranse - you can' teach 7'5", he will develop he is only 18!

Houston picked Badiane! Is that NY's for JVG? What ever happened to compensation????

Layden gets a A.

i would give this draft a B. i like sweetney. i think he will be solid but he is no superstar. he may avg. a couple of years with double doubles. but he will learn that the pros are different. he is undersized so expect his shots to get blocked often ( a la weatherspoon). i know he has an incredible wingspan but he will still have a hard time getting his shots off. in two years he may pan out but don't expect much this year. but i am thrilled with the second round picks. even though lampe likes playing the 3 or 4, some scouts said that he is capable of playing th 5 if he polishes his post moves. he can with the guidance of herb williams ( is he still part of our coaching staff?). but they need to settle this contract dispute because unlike some people's opinions, i think we need his services this year. and vranes, a " clean slate" center, is another steal. he is in the leastern conference, which helps because he will not have to face the really good bigs. he can be taught effectively how to play in the post instead of away from the basket like most european big men. now, will he be in our summer league games or go back to europe for another year?

I think sweetney can be our best center assuming Vranes isn't ready. I know for sure that Sweetney will be great at PF, he's a legit 6-8, LJ was a 6-5 PF while Barkley was 6-4.
