Bucks reject Knicks trade offer
Posted: Tuesday January 15, 2008 07:31AM ET
The truth is, contrary to Isiah Thomas' denial when word got out, Knicks GM Glen Grunwald initiated a trade call last week to Bucks GM Larry Harris in an effort to trade Zach Randolph. As far as I can determine, the word got out when Harris called his Trail Blazers counterpart, Kevin Pritchard, to check out Randolph, whom the Knicks acquired from Portland last June on draft night, and someone in their organization leaked it to a reporter for The Oregonian. By that time, the Bucks had summarily rejected the Knicks' proposal: Randolph and Renaldo Balkman for Charlie Villanueva, Bobby Simmons and Dan Gadzuric.--New York Post

I don't get why the Bucks would want Z-Bo with Bogut and Yi already there.

HAHA! I really didn't think there was any chance Mil (or anyone for that matter) would want Zach.

I think Zach will spend the rest of his NBA career with the Knicks.

Haha. The main reason I like it is because we'd get Charlie, Simmons deal is 1 year shorter than Zachs and although Gadzuric had 3 years left on his contract, his salary is manageable. Although I'd prefer he wasnt included.

Getting Charlie is the main idea behind my liking of the trade though.

But you're right, it's basically drinking 2 bottles of laxatives while having the runs. Good analogy, even though it's really really really disgusting.

Well my thinking was that he only has 1 year left on his deal after this year, so we can trade for him, see how he plays and if he sucks just let him walk.

Yes I have thought about that deal. The trade was an underachieving player(Charlie) for a PG coming off a serious spinal cord injury(Ford)

There was plenty of risk from both sides.

Was there really much concern of CV being an underachiever at the time? He had an amazing rookie year and got shipped off for a high risk/reward player at a position Toronto needed help at.

Yep Calangelo received all the Red Flags notices from the organization on him. Plenty reports from Toronto pegged as a Lazy care free player.

While the risk were there which team got better when both players were contributing at the same time? Usually Big for small doesn't work and is rarely done in trades.

Bitty would have believed that the Bucks would be a contender with the addition of Z-Bo

I am pretty sure neither Gadzuric, McGrady or Simmons ever got 22 rebounds in a game.

Randolph is in his first year with the Knicks and both have yet to find a a happy medium.

As for the ever ready and always negative critics - may I remind them of the famous line by Kareem in airplane ‘you tell your Dad to run up and down the court for 40 minutes with the big guys’. Finding true double/double guys no matter what their flaws is rare.

Randolph has game and at 26 - he can become a better all round player. he was asked to shoot and rebound then - and quite frankly Portland is playing a deceptive game of salary dumping - because they are no where near profitable - and haven’t been so for the last 3 years. Orlando -was the hottest team last year similarly and we saw what happened in the playoffs with them- and I will go on record saying the same applies to Portland this year.

Gadzuric is older - has played less minutes (een on an equally BAD NBA team) - has less points, less rebounds and inthe last three years has not avveraged close to 1 block a game- puh-lease. As for Simmons at 6-6-making 9 mil a year (?!?!?)

I would rather stick to the million a year Balkman -till his contract runs out- its not like Simmons is Michael Redd or something - a proven outside shooter.

No way - any GM would make this deal. I believe this is more disinformation to shaft Isiah- he went on record saying he is not interested in any trades now-since because the team is doing so badly - everyone would want to rip them off.
