The following is my report on the game at the Garden between the Knicks and the Rockets.
Just in case you think this is the result of my reputed out-of-control ego, I hasten to point out that djsunyc requested a report on the game from me.
This will be no-where near the stellar quality of the "Live from Section 404" blog, but I will do the best I can, given the minimal effort I feel like making.
Since I don't get to the Garden often, I have a couple of impressions: The new score-board display is nice and clear, and the seats still smell like stale beer. I saw a good number of empty seats.
I started off with a bit of concern as the first thing I saw on the court was a huge beached whale. A man in white appeared to be manipulating the poor creature's flippers in an attempt to revive him.
I was reluctant to point this out to anyone, suspecting an acid flashback, and continued puzzling at the disturbing scene, until the whale stirred and turned on its side, where a large '34' was written. Thank heavens! It's only Eddy Curry stretching with some assistance from a trainer.
A little while later, the game began and, as I recall, the Knicks went down early. In evaluating the players, I thought the tall white dude played well. But then, I am biased towards white basketball players.
I also thought the short black dude played well too. But then, I am biased toward black basketball players.
The fans were fickle. Booing one minute and cheering the next. I got the impression that they really wanted a team that they could support.
But the garden fans boo anything. They booed the guy who was trying to win $10,000. He misssed the free-throws and the three-pointers. "You Suck!" Yelled the fans. Tough crowd.
The best basketball of the night occurred at halftime when the YMCA kids played. The tumblers are fun to watch. The snooty "Knicks Dancers" are okay too, I guess.
Am I the only one that things the volume of the sound system is too loud at MSG?
I noticed that David Lee started the second half. I guess the thinking was that he, and later Malik Rose, could play better D on Yao Ming than Eddy Curry had. Did I mention that Yao is amazing? It must be nice to be able to drop a basketball *down* into the basket. But I also thought that he moved very well.
Anyway, as I recall the Knicks were hanging in there as best they could. Then I guess Isiah decided they were playing too well and needed disrupting. So he yelled at the official and got himself tossed from the game.
It was all over after that, IMO.
