The only one I saw on our boards to mention an incident that happened yesterday with the Rockets was SupremeCommander. So I thought I'd bring it up on a more open thread to be discussed.

Just because our team sucks, and just because we may not like some of the players or staff, this does not give other orgainzations the right to ridicule our organization. I know we' ourselves do it, but we can do it, because we are the fans. I came across something disturbing earlier, that I'm sure most of you know about by now. I think this needs to be addressed and I think this needs to be stopped immediately, before it gets nasty. Seeing that Stern and co. suspended Zach for 'throwing a head band at a ref' and costing him about $180,000 for one game, I want to see Stern say something about what happened in Houston and apparently what has' been going on in the league. Here are a few of the incidents:

Houston
The Rockets entertainment staff mocked the Knicks, specifically Stephon Marbury, in a stunt during a second-quarter timeout. A Rockets staffer posed as a Knicks fan wearing a blue Marbury jersey and Statue of Liberty crown. The fake Marbury fan was given a torch to hold up with the basketball in its cradle, so the Rockets' mascot "Clutch The Bear" could take the ball and dunk it. After the fake Marbury fan kept dropping the ball, "Clutch" ripped the torch away, blindfolded him and replaced the torch with an "Idiot" sign. The fake Marbury fan stood for 30 seconds holding the "Idiot" sign aloft even as the real Marbury came on to the court, standing a few feet from him, waiting for play to resume as the fans erupted in laughter at the scene. Marbury brushed it off, wearing a smirk.

San Antonio
The Knicks have been the butt of jokes across the nation for their basketball the past two months, but the club wasn't thrilled Spurs forward Matt Bonner crossed the line with a tasteless joke after the Spurs' win Friday night. Referring to Thomas' sexual-harassment suit, Bonner said to the San Antonio Express, "I felt some pinching - it made me uncomfortable." A Knicks spokesman declined comment on Bonner's joke.

I don't mind being a joke among ourselves (because they are), but to be the official laughing stock of the NBA? 'forget that ****'!
I'll never trust this' team again.

You mean that wasn't the real Marbury self proclaiming himself again?!?!?

bonner shouldn't make jokes like that when it comes to harassment - that's pretty much one topic that isn't funny. But its just a stupid comment by one person.

I half expect the rockets to make some kind of apology- it was uncalled for and it was scripted- so more than one idiot got together and thought it was funny.

nixluva made a comment in the other thread that I thought was on target- if NYC ever made fun of another city, they'd rip us. Screw Houston - its an ugly city and their team is probably going to miss the playoffs with the worlds softest big man in the world.

we've been the butt of jokes for several years now... the best way to stop that from happening is to start winning some games.

There is no Knick pride left. The Knick fans are unfairly represented by Napoleon. The checks and balances of what a professional sports franchise should be is not there. The fans always do their part--tickets merchandise tv --the cost of the franchise has improved because of the fan and the value of Manhattan real estate. In turn when the fan shows reasonable dissaproval--it falls on deaf ears. Napoleon has a one-tracked mind.

We will get this treatment over and over again until Isiah and Co will be busted.
What you expect from the league if some jerk of a man, bully, and snake is getting power and money for nothing?
This is long overdue and there is no other way to fix it.
Keeping Isiah and his band of players is disgraceful by itself and I am not expecting anything but humiliation until they are gone.

that is true and we have been the butt of jokes since the layden days. it is easy to say that winning will squash it but the organization still doesn't get it. i am embarrassed as a fan to see the decline into being a laughingstock but the players seemed like they don't care. remember during the brown era when someone made fun of francis and his response was that he was still getting paid? that is the mentality of this team. thomas, despite what he says in interviews, is embarassed. but the players are obviously not and dolan is not. you know why? because they are all getting paid. they don't care if people are laughing at them. it is frustrating because every person needs motivation. this team has no motivation so what do you do next?

I don't know the joke so I can't say if it was in bad taste. Isiah's professional effectiveness is in bad taste.

Its not like Houstan was bad mouthing NYC or New Yorkers, they were making fun of Marbury. He is a max player who is a clown, so unless they were making fun of his pops, he is fair game.

The Knicks are a pathetic over priced group of losers and deserve no respect from anyone.

Respect is earned.

I think it was in bad taste, but I have no pride in this team -- so it offends my sense of comedy, but not my sense of pride.
