The only one I saw on our boards to mention an incident that happened yesterday with the Rockets was SupremeCommander. So I thought I'd bring it up on a more open thread to be discussed.
Just because our team sucks, and just because we may not like some of the players or staff, this does not give other orgainzations the right to ridicule our organization. I know we' ourselves do it, but we can do it, because we are the fans. I came across something disturbing earlier, that I'm sure most of you know about by now. I think this needs to be addressed and I think this needs to be stopped immediately, before it gets nasty. Seeing that Stern and co. suspended Zach for 'throwing a head band at a ref' and costing him about $180,000 for one game, I want to see Stern say something about what happened in Houston and apparently what has' been going on in the league. Here are a few of the incidents:
Houston The Rockets entertainment staff mocked the Knicks, specifically Stephon Marbury, in a stunt during a second-quarter timeout. A Rockets staffer posed as a Knicks fan wearing a blue Marbury jersey and Statue of Liberty crown. The fake Marbury fan was given a torch to hold up with the basketball in its cradle, so the Rockets' mascot "Clutch The Bear" could take the ball and dunk it. After the fake Marbury fan kept dropping the ball, "Clutch" ripped the torch away, blindfolded him and replaced the torch with an "Idiot" sign. The fake Marbury fan stood for 30 seconds holding the "Idiot" sign aloft even as the real Marbury came on to the court, standing a few feet from him, waiting for play to resume as the fans erupted in laughter at the scene. Marbury brushed it off, wearing a smirk.
San Antonio The Knicks have been the butt of jokes across the nation for their basketball the past two months, but the club wasn't thrilled Spurs forward Matt Bonner crossed the line with a tasteless joke after the Spurs' win Friday night. Referring to Thomas' sexual-harassment suit, Bonner said to the San Antonio Express, "I felt some pinching - it made me uncomfortable." A Knicks spokesman declined comment on Bonner's joke.
I don't mind being a joke among ourselves (because they are), but to be the official laughing stock of the NBA? 'forget that ****'!
I'll never trust this' team again.
