New York Daily News -
Right up until he accepted the Nets' offer, Kiki Vandeweghe, an ex-Knick whose dad also played in New York, was still trying to figure out a way to have a sit-down with the Garden's CEO and convince him that he could get this team righted.

"The job Kiki really wanted was the Knicks' job," said one of Vandeweghe's friends in the league. "He was really hoping that Dolan would do something, and he had a lot of people talking on his behalf. But they didn't even give him a whiff."

wow. i'm not even all that excited about kiki as a possible knicks GM, but if they're not even testing the waters for a replacement for IT, that's extremely troubling.

Yeah I agree and that's what I got out of this story as well. I don't really care about Kiki - but - this just screams that Isiah is completely safe no matter what. That's what it seems to indicate and that's a very sad thing for us Knick fans. Well, I guess...aside from those dwindling few who believe Isiah is a genius and we're going to turn the corner.

Obviously Isiah has some dirt on him along with mr dolan, birds of a feather flock together nobody is gonna tell on each other.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Kiki "I gave Kenyon Martin $68M" Vandeweghe? Dunno. I'd prefer Colangelo, personally. Sucks that he went to the Swamprats but it'll be interesting to see what he and Rod Thorn do.

Of course, none of this matters since Isiah ain't going anywhere anytime soon.

Colangelo is a sexy as hell name, but I dunno about him. He's real old isn't he? God forbid he gets real sick during his time here or something and he can't perform his job anymore. Again, I say God forbid, but do we want to risk something like that?

kiki would be a HUGE upgrade.

the talk of colangelo, walsh, etc - all pipe dreams.

within the realm of candidates that are available and willing to come here, kiki is not a bad choice.

he did turn around a dead over the cap franchise into a perennial playoff team despite his mistakes. if isiah did what kiki did in denver, he would've been heralded as the greatest gm in the world.

cosign. I still think Mark Jackson would be an excellent choice.

let's not forget a team of andre miller, melo, kmart/nene and camby in the eastern conference probably goes deep in the playoffs.

If Detroit drafts Melo instead of Darko then Kiki's 3 lotto picks from 03-04 would have been Skeet(bust), Nene(average), Darko(bust).

He also traded draft rights for Jameer Nelson to Orlando for a future draft pick which turned out to be Julius Hodge. Then traded draft rights for Jarrett Jack to Portland for Linas Kleiza and Ricky Sanchez.

And he still would be an upgrade over Isiah.

I don't know if kiki is necessarily would you'd call, off the market anyway. He's only being brought in there as an assistant not as the GM. The Knicks could still pry him away theoretically. Not that I'd want them to, beacuse I don't really.

Rod Thorn with Kiki as his sidekick sounds like a good deal, nonetheless. I'd like to see what they're going to assemble for the Brooklyn move in 2 years.

Your first statement is conjecture and irrelevant since Kiki did draft Melo and those were the cards that fell. I think a lot of GMs have made one or two questionable moves. As for the Nene pick, I always wonder why no one kills the Cavs for selecting Dajuan Wagner; why nobody kills the Warriors for selecting Dunleavy; why nobody kills the Bulls for selecting Jay Williams. Not everyone was up on how good Amare was going to be -- the high school risk is something that some teams will avoid. Things like that happen every draft. Nene was a good pick despite missing Amare. Kiki has also made a few great moves and rose a dead franchise up from basically garbage. Aside from the awesome Camby trade that people forget, we also forget that he managed to get rid of overrated junk in Raef LaFrenz and Nick Van Exel for cap space. Huge upgrade over Isiah, in my opinion.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Kiki's an assistant GM who wants to be an overpaid Knicks' executive--that's not stunning!

Kiki.....he has shown he will go for what's hot instead of what might work if given a chance like Isiah.

Hodge went lower than expected. If he came out a year earlier he would have went higher. Kiki took him cuz he was hot.

Skeet skeet was the hottest euro guy coming up. The guy had the skills but just couldn't prove himself in games.

Nene seemed confident with the whole name change, to go with his uncanny quickness, strength, and body. He's a freak. Who woulda thought he would be such a lazy bastard?

Kiki tried to get lebron or melo.....sucsess. He went and got Camby who was nothing short of a warrior as a Knick. Andre Miller was a young, heady point guard coming off a 10 assist per game year.

Kenyon Martin? Freak athlete. Winner. Tough bastard. Aggressive. Killer instinct. Awesome defender. Too bad he has bad knees can't really call that.

This is why they hot, this is why they hot, this is why, this is why, this is why they hot!

Anyway......he would have brought a new group in...........he did play in ny during a rough stint. He knows all about the boo birds and the media......but who is to say he woulda worked out......still if dolan fired isiah and hired kiki I think the whole sports world would have let out a sigh of relief.

To be fair, Nene was additional consideration along with Camby for Antonio McDyess. Not bad for Kiki. They clearly got the better of that deal.

i think kiki would be good at shedding big contracts and tanking, basically speeding up our rebuild. he's a much better cap manager than isiah, which would be useful. unclear who has a better eye for talent IMO.

honestly, i'd consider giving kiki the denver treatment - bring him in to break the roster down, then put the team in more capable hands to actually accumulate players as part of a vision toward relly competing.

Disturbing.

I remember years ago, there was a time when the Garden had trouble putting people in the seats. I believe with more time of losing, people will grow tired of it eventually and dolan should finally get the message. The question is WHEN?

It's come to a point of when the Knicks make anymore moves, they better damn well make the best move there is to make, otherwise, we are stuck in the middle of nowhere for long periods of time.
I'll never trust this' team again.
