.. in the Marbury and Curry trades, drafted David West instead of Sweetney, pick Jack instead of Nate, and picked Bynum instead of Frye?

You can never truly answer this question because we are operating with the benefit of hindsight, so obviuosly everyone will compare the best players from those draft years as opposed to the player's rank during those years. For example, we could have made the Curry trade and still have gotten Bynum and Jarret Jack, so the fact that we gave up picks was not the whole issue. It was the fact that we drafted Frye instead of Bynum. But we did pickup Lee. This team could have been made up of Roy, Aldridge, Bynum, Jack, and Lee right now. Given Portland's record, I would have to say that would be a pretty solid team. However, I am more concerned with whether we can get Derrick Rose this year. He would be a solid start to rebuilding.

Derrick Rose has looked unimpressive in all the games I've seen him in. I guess he must be really good to get all the hype he does anyway.....

This is gonna take some research.

drafting david west would have possibly meant no david lee. It would have all been a snowball all the way to this year.

Fun, fun, fun......

I rather have David West than David Lee. West has a all around game. David West can pass, post, shoot and block shots.

He's very underrated but he can play.

He is probably one of the most underrated players in the league next to Deng. If these guys were on the Knicks people would be saying they are all-stars. Look at how people in New York make a big deal about Balkman and Mardy. Imagine a player like West.

Hahahaha I still chuckle when I think about how people raved about Balkman and Mardy. Chris Paul gets all the big accolades but West is just one of those players that just wills his way very physical, tough, and smart player.

That's not true because a lot of people here were wanting those players at the time of the draft, it wasn't hindsight.

Bynum and Granger were talked about ahead of Frye.
Jack was mentioned ahead of Nate.
Marcus Williams was mentioned ahead of Mardy with Balkman available with the later pick.
Roy and Gay were mentioned as players that would have filled obvious needs.

There is zero doubt that this team would have been much better off if they had kept their first rd picks instead of trading them away for 2 fake franchise players in Marbury and Curry and using the ones they had on better players.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Well for one we'd have a franchise player that in of itself answers the question kindly. Second how hard is it to best an average of 33wins/season since the Marbury acquisition? We'd more than likely have a HOF coach on the sideline. We'd have a better offensive and defensive team. We'd have better character guys who'd play hard every night. We wouldn't have any excuses. I'd say at this point we'd be at least 10wins better than the 33win season average, with tons of upside.

The Knicks could have had Aldridge, Roy, or Gay in 2006... or Noah, Williams, Stuckey, or Dudley last year (my odds-on favorites to be good that were available at #9) from that draft.

So, here we go:

PG: Jack
SG: Stuckey
SF: Gay
PF: West
C: (this year) DeAndre Jordan

OR

PG: Jack
SG: Roy
SF: (this year) Michael Beasley
PF: West
C: Williams

OR

PG: Jack
SG: (this year) Eric Gordon or OJ Mayo
SF: Dudley
PF: West
C: Aldridge

Sorry to make everyone collectively vomit in their mouths. (edit:) And I didn't even factor in the possible selection of Andrew Bynum. Wow, Isiah is an idiot. That means that means you'd have the ability to upgrade the PG position and move Jack into a sixth man role.

If you delete balkman and collins and make them marcus Williams and boone then you have something more to cry about.

Too much hindsight. Actually you have to assume the Knicks would've blown some of the picks.

One of the Marbury picks could've been Josh Smith or JR Smith. There was a lot of talk about how much Isiah liked JR Smith.

The players with the Curry picks- put any 2 of them together at this point and they'd be better than Curry.

BTW, if they didn't take Sweetney my guess is they would've taken Collison who's still better than Sweetney by virtue of being in the league.
