The trade is

Allan Houston for Cutino Mobley, Eddie Griffin, and Glen Rice. Before everyone goes crazy. Glen is in the last year of his contract. Which would save the knicks millions. Eddie is 6'10 and can play the three or the four. Glen could play the three or come off the bench. Mobley could play the 1 or the 2. Spree could go back to his orginal position at the two. The Knicks could either pick T.J. Ford or Kaman with the ninth pick. If they pick T.J. they could either package the 2 second round picks for a center or draft one in the second round. Either way the knicks to alittle bigger and alot younger. Line up

T.J. Ford (Buyout Ward) Williams/Eisley
Sprewell/Mobley
Rice/Griffin
Thomas/ McDyess(when he returns
Doleac (Whoever they draft or get in free agency)

Thats a good trade to do. New blood. Then I would consider taking TJ ford and run an uptempo attack. Spree, Mobley, Griffin that works for me.

Hate to rain on your parade but, NOBODY is going to take on Houston's contract which pays him 20.7 million in its final year... not even JVG.

Different deal from insider, same teams...

"On the Block: Latrell Sprewell, Kurt Thomas, Charlie Ward
The Skinny: For the past three years every potential Spree trade scenario has been hashed and rehashed. We're not going to get into all that here. But one trade rumor bears mentioning. A deal to send Spree to the Rockets for Cuttino Mobley and Glen Rice could be in the works. We know that Rice bombed the last time he played in New York. But the cap relief would be nice, and it would free up some space for the Knicks to take a top notch small forward like Maciej Lampe."

I don't know how I feel about this trade... unless a pick is thrown in or we become able to jettison some garbage contracts I don't see how this helps. Do Rice and Mobley come off the cap this year?

This is one of the dumbest deals I've ever heard.... unless you're from Houston. VG's no dope, I'm sure he's trying to heist Sprewell from Layden.

How much are we over the CAP? Do you know? Sign Gilbert Arenas... we don't have the cash to sign Earl Boykins... do your homework.

Shawn Kemp was traded, so was Damon Stoudemire, so was Isiah Rider, Pippen, Vin Baker...anyone can get traded. Unlike a lot of those guys Houston is VERY productive, even if he is overpaid.

If some team would bite the bullet and take Houston... Allelujah. A team like Houston with Francis and Yao... would be a deadly threesome. They would be fun to watch and could contend for the Crown... and go into mass debt at the same time.

Spree is the guy that needs to go period ! His dunks are getting boring and un creative send him back to the west where he started. Houston got the Larry Bird rule on his contract and people are still sweating his contract.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

magnum, this would be a good trade, but the big question is this:

Would Jeff Van Gundy be ready to let such a deal go through to his former team before even getting a chance to coach those guys?

He went to Houston for one reason: to win. Why would he want to coach players he knows from experience that he can't win with?

It would be nice for the Knicks, but unfortunately, the Houston brass will never approve this.
