I have been a knicks fan forever, but for the last 10 years or so, I have not lived in New York. The last 4 years or so I have lived in Los Angeles. I pay a lot of money for this nba league pass, and sometimes I wonder if it is worth it, although with the tv writer's strike the way it is I think I will be watching more and more basketball.

Since, I have been in Los Angeles, I have been trying to transition myself away from the knicks. This is a difficult process. I don't think anyone can wake up one day and just start rooting for another team. As it is now, 4 years later, and a lot of knicks losses later, I still watch every knick game and only about half of the laker games. However, lately I think my situation has been improving, and I am really getting excited about the lakers.

I think this is due to a number of factors.

1.) The knicks really stink and with Isiah still here improvement is questionable.
2.) I started getting all the lakers games in high def.
3.) The lakers drafted farmar from UCLA, which is my favorite college team
4.) The lakers traded for Ariza, both a UCLA product and an old knick favorite.
5.) I really like Bynum and the lakers are playing well.

So, I ask you, what is your transition team?

And, I hope you know, that it takes a number of years to transition, so I hope you are already in the process. I think if I lived in new york, and I believed in the nets, I might go for them, you probably get them on cable for cheap anyway.

Since the Knicks have started sucking I've watched far less non-Knicks bball games. No interest really. I think once NFL season is up I'll watch more college bball.

Fair Enough,

Vdesai, I have watched you throughout football season, and you seem to understand a great deal. What do you think happens to this giant team next week?

I am a long time Laker hater but I gotta say this current team is interesting.

Good mix of vets and youthier player with the triangle ball movement is fun to watch. I don't like Kobe, but you can't not respect his game!

Watching the knicks is very hard.

NBA League Pass is a life saver for me- and where you're unfortunately paying money to watch our crappy knicks, I pay for it so I can actually watch decent basketball.

I appreciate the style of play of Phoenix, Dallas & GSW. I don't think I could suddenly become a Suns fan- since its Nash & what he does with 'limited' physical abilities that I find so fascinating- and he is getting up there and won't play forever.

In terms of local teams, Dolan & Isiah might be turning me into a Nets fan.

They are locked into the 5 spot and will play Tampa Bay in the first round, so even though we all want them to knock off the undefeated Pats they will likely play it safe next week and rest most of their starters. Considering Jacobs and Plaxico have been injured throughout the year, would you really want to risk them playing? I'd say no. The good news is we should see a lot of Ahmad Bradshaw who has a ton of potential and could very well have another big game. We'll also get to see more of Steve Smith and Kevin Boss. On D, I doubt you see too much of Strahan and the older vets.

The Pats will go all out early as Brady and Moss are also close to records so, my guess is we see them put up some points early, see the Pats pull their guys in the 2nd half and then try to hold on to the win.

But I think things will look up for the game against Tampa. Eli plays better in warmer weather conditions without wind and rain and Tampa isn't too scary on O. I think the Giants can win their first round game.

I also think we should be able to win against tampa. I think the key is to get the lead early and then let the running game and defense control the game. Eli is a little bit of a wild card. People have been down on him, but I agree that he has a better shot in warm weather(without the wind and rain.) However, even if we fall behind, I think he might bring us back. He is not done yet.

Not to get too far off topic but with Eli its all about consistency. He can be great or poor, or great and poor within the same game. But he doesn't get enough credit for his resiliency. He has led a ton of comebacks in the few years he's been here. Only problem is sometimes we fall behind because of him!

I miss you analysis in what has become the off-topic thread. You are very good.

I think we will be alright for at least that game. After that when we see dallas, or washington/vikings we will see.

Thanks man. I think they'll be in good shape. I thought they "hung" with Dallas alright in the 2 games they played...they really were right there in the first game. Problem is they will have to face Favre and the Packers in Lambeau in the 2nd round and that will be a very tough hurdle considering how cold it gets there. The Giants need to do what they do best - run the ball. They can't get too pass happy. Run the ball and put yourself in spots to hit the deep play action. Keep up the pass rush and see if you can force some TO's on D. Sometimes fans don't like conservative, but that is the way to play it on O with this team right now.

Doesn't the 5 seed play the 4 seed(which is tampa), which eventually plays dallas and not green bay?

Sorry about that you are right, unless Seattle loses to Washington, they will face Dallas.

I'm quite interested in Portland myself right now. I hated them when they were good, when they were the Jailblazers, but now they have players who are good, dedicated and fun to watch. I want to see how this group reacts when Greg Oden comes about, along with whatever draft pick they get. They need to stand pat though besides that, because they have a lot going on, with what they have. Maybe sign a backup veteran for just a little, somewhere, but that's all.

I agree, Portland is a pretty interesting team. I really loved the way they ran their draft this year, stockpiling picks/prospects. I'm a big Oden fan too- I think they are well set up.

yo Cash, i'm in LA too, & even tho i could never picture myself ever rooting for another team other than the Knicks, i think if i had to choose, i'd probably start following the Clippers a little more as soon as they get rid of Fugazy... i could never root for the Lakers tho for some reason ever since Magic left the NBA.

Yeah, I watch plenty of NCAA hoops too. The Knicks are my favorite team, but I'm not much of an NBA fan. Prospect watching is fun for me and I love to try and gauge who tomorrow's stars will be.

Not to mention, the NCAA tournment is the single best tournament in the country. When you actually know who you should be watching throughout the course of the tournment, it gets 1,000x better.

That's the silver lining, for me, of this Knicks debacle... I really began to embrace college hoops.

With conference play about to be underway, I'm definitely getting more into college BB.

As far as the NBA is concerend, I dont have much interest in rooting for another team outside of the Knicks. But, I do find myself checking in on Heat, Bulls and even Memphis games, hoping they win and bury us deeper towards the bottom of the standings as to increase our chances at a top three pick.

The Giants are a dangerous team if they have to go through decent weather environments in the playoffs.

Eli was good in Buffalo despite what it looked like on TV. I was at the game in the endzone that the wind was blowing towards and let me tell you, it was brutal. Freezing rain coming at you sideways is not the sweetest to pass in.

When the wind was at his back Eli was great, when it wasn't, he wasn't. No big deal to me, but the talkshows aren't taking that into consideration. The ball to Smith was perfect and should have been caught, the Plaxico bomb was about a yard outside. I mean, you can't ask for a ton more than what he gave you in those conditions.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)
