how about kupchak as a potential replacement for isiah?

he may be a better drafter than isiah.

Shaq for Odom Kupchak? Butler for Brown Kupchak? Smush Parker starting PG Kupchak?

I don't think he is an improvement over Isiah.

If Isiah is to be fired, I hope it is not just to buy time with the fans for the same cycle. I would rather watch a bad Isiah team until MSG is ready to bring in a truly proven GM, or Mark Jackson. If they aren't ready to do that, we can just as easily watch Isiah Thomas flounder as any other GM.

Kupchak has made good use of some later picks, there's no doubt about it... the 1 lottery pick he had he used on Bynum & that's proven to be a success... i'd have no problem w/bringing him in here as long as Dolan let the guy do his job.

to kupchak's defense, shaq only wanted to go to 2 teams, dallas and miami, and on order from your owner, to trade him there, he did the best he could.

it is impossible to name a guy that would be better than isiah unless you bring up the usual suspects (colangelo, dumars, etc). but kupchak would not be worse than isiah, that's an impossibility.

You're right that Kupchak was going to lose in the Shaq trade no matter what because of circumstance, but he compounded the disadvantage by then trading Butler to Washington for Kwame Brown. I think Butler would be a teammate Kobe could "trust".
