Dolan just used the 'Stern Mandate' to settle as cover. He did it for his own reasons. I suspect, though, Isiah isn't far behind.

Yes, I think Stern urged CHARLES Dolan to get things moving. The decision to settle came from Charles Dolan at Stern's urging. MSG's statement said that Stern urged them to settle and so they did.

Now, yes, I do believe Stern has also "suggested" or "urged" the Knicks to settle the Isiah disaster and move forward. When they do then Stern will step in again and "suggest" a viable replacement as Knicks GM and the Dolans will take that under advisement.

The commish is involved. It's fact he was involved in settling Anucha. He was involved in forcing the Knicks to settle with Larry Brown and then headed that hearing. It is known he was involved in forcing MSG to act on Scott Layden.

Stern must be awfully sick and tired of having to meddle with the Knicks.

i believe that msg purposely put the stern urging in their settlement quote as a way to further insulate themselves from personal liability. and, it also adds to the whole belief they feel they did nothing wrong..."isiah, stern forced us to settle, we still believe you are innocent"".....in a few weeks, they'll be saying..."isiah, sorry to can you, but stern forced us to....our hands are tied"

I doubt Stern has the power to force Dolan to do anything. He can advice him to fire isiah, which he's probably done already, but he can't force him to fire Isiah. The only hope as I see it is that Dolan pulls the plug when the knicks are mathematically eliminated.

Strong advice from Stern can be good push in shaky situation.
