We added a 23 and 10 player to an offense who's core has been together for 3 years and somehow we got worse. The value of finding players that can adapt and that know how to play is over-rated.
A big part of the problem is Q. Q missing his 3s really hurts because he is often the guy left open and without that threat teams are doubling Curry, who as we know is not the best center in the world at effectively handling double teams. The other problem over the past couple of games has been Randolph missing a bunch of easy shots. He has no lift and on shots that most PF would easily dunk, he tries to flip the ball into the basket and has been off more than expected lately. Not sure what is going on with him but we need him shooting at a higher percentage.
Fred Jones running the point provides more defense, but it also has hurt the offense because he is slow in getting the team into its set and getting the ball in the right hands. Not really his fault b/c he is not a pg, but I think this is another reason our offense cannot seem to score over the past few games.
Bottomline, this team has lost its confidence. There is no way these players should not be able to compete every night. In 8 of the 20 games, we have gotten down by 20 or more points. THat is insane. Kenny Smith mentioned yesterday that no NBA level team should be down that much in so many games. The mental state of this team is poor and until it improves, we are going to continue to see inconsistent play. We really need to find a strong leader to guide this team on the court. Until we can find someone that the other players can really rally behind, this team is going to continue to be a rudderless ship.
