UConn Head Coach Jim Calhoun

"Congratulations to Bill Coen and his team from Northeastern. I thought they did a good job.

As far as we’re concerned, I would give us an “F” on offense and probably a “C+” – I would give us a higher grade, but we didn’t rebound in the second half and we certainly didn’t defend Janning – otherwise I thought we played good defense.

There are a couple of guys on our team who just are not going to get over the top of screens, and one of those guys we took out for long periods in the first half.

We played very poorly, energy-wise. We played very good defense, stopping that flex time after time after time.

You gotta remember now, and I’ve been there – I was at that same institution – when you’re down six or eight, you’re happy as hell. And the other coach, like me in this case, is scared. When they’re grinding that offense out, they have us just where they want us. They’re within grasp.

We shouldn’t be where we are in certain areas of the game that I think we’re much better than. Yet, for whatever reason, which I honestly don’t have an explanation for, guys that I continue to think are better than what they’re playing."

Somehow Calhoun can say things like this to his players and not fear that they will constantly lose confidence. It's because he is sure to bring in the type of player that has the mental toughness to handle his sarcastic in your face ways. Maybe it's time for Isiah to try a similar strategy. If a team clearly gives no effort on the floor and you are afraid to be angry about it, than you clearly haven't acquired the type of players that can succeed in NY. At what point in time is the onus on the players to play with an undying support that the fans can be forced to love instead of trying to talk us into loving a team that quites every other night so that we don't hurt their feelings? When are we going to erase this mentality?
I just hope that people will like me

There are alot of bright minds surrounding the game of basketball. Some reside in high school, some reside in college, some reside overseas, some reside in the NBDL and there are plenty in the NBA. Sadly, none reside with our franchise.

That's college ball. This is the pros. In the pros, the players can all get together and have the coach fired.

This is a good thing, because sometimes these coaches can become dictatorial, bossing players around like they're in charge or something. This is a players league. IT is the NBA coaches job to make sure the guys are comfortable and don't work too hard. He also must be careful to spare the players' delicate feelings. One harsh word could ruin a player for life (as Larry did to many of our Knicks).

ITs a funny league. The Knicks haven't won **** in years and you hardly a hear a peep out of the players complaning about the coach.

Meanwhile you have perennial playoff teams who can't wait to get their coaches fired.

That's b/c the coaches for those teams are actually intense and kill their players for the smallest things, and it pays off on the court. Meanwhile, Isiah coddles and coddles and coddles and nothing has changed.

I don't think any decent coach will try to push hard Steph, Eddy, and Zack like.
He will just send them home and then send them packing for whatever they get in return.
That’s why this type of guys are in NY. Nobody wants any peace of this.
