NEW YORK -- The New York Knicks' struggles on and off the court didn't keep the team from remaining the NBA's most valuable franchise for the third straight year, according to a list compiled by Forbes.

The Knicks were valued at $604 million, up 3 percent from the previous year despite a spate of losing, an embarrassing defeat in a sexual harassment lawsuit, and continuing questions about the future of coach Isiah Thomas.

The NBA's marquee franchise also had a league-high $196 million in revenues for the 2006-07 season while topping the list with negative $42.2 million in operating income after going 33-49 and missing the playoffs.

The Los Angeles Lakers decreased in value 2 percent, down to $560 from $568 million, but remained second on the list. The Chicago Bulls were third with a value of $500 million and a league-best $59.3 million in operating income. Detroit and Houston rounded out the top five.

The Cleveland Cavaliers showed the biggest jump in value among the top 10 teams, increasing 20 percent to $455 million. They jumped from 10th to seventh.

The Dallas Mavericks, who were third on last year's list after a 15 percent hike in value following their first NBA finals appearance, dropped to sixth. Phoenix, Miami and San Antonio completed the top 10.

Even at the top of the NBA heap, the Knicks wouldn't crack the top 10 in the NFL, where the No. 1 Cowboys were valued at $1.5 billion and the No. 10 Jets came in at $967 million, according to the list of NFL franchises Forbes released in September.

The complete list of NBA franchises will appear on the magazine's Web site, Forbes.com.

Damn, Dolan is stylin' on all of us! This little incompetent, daddy's boy is straight cakin'!!! Havent had a decent team in years and the value is going vertical?!?

All the more reason for Stern to step in and let his voice be heard. Dolan doesnt give a SYHT if the Knicks win or lose. His bank account is healthy. All makes sense now.

stop going to the games guys... it's the only way to send a message to that moron Dolan... as long as he sees that revenue money coming in he could care less how crappy this team is.

Come on man!!!
Get 20000 seats filled in the center of the world is not a problem even if you will run the monkey show 82 times per year.
Even if all Knicks fans will stop attending, Garden will be almost full anyways.
You can hit Dolan a bit with season tickets. They will not get money in advance to invest... But it should not be too critical anyway.

Most of us don't attend games. But we do watch them on cable.

So the only thing we can do is stop watching them on the teevee.

I might just do that. This is all taking too much time for something I'm feeling not all that into anymore.

This is why we're powerless to change the Knicks' starphucking. It gets a few people excited enough to keep spending money--and more money than they'd spend if we did a real rebuild.

Umm...I think everyone is missing something.

" while topping the list with negative $42.2 million in operating income"

Negative operating income? That means their operating expenses- I.e. payroll, Anucha settlement etc. is greater than what they brought in, i.e. their revenues. That means the Knicks didn't make money last year!

They could have made money from investments and other revenues to make up for the operating loss - I would have to take a look at their income statement. The real important number is the Net Income - if thats positive then they made money.

However it is really bad to have negative earnings from operations - it is a sign of the health of an organization.

i still say the only way to get the message across to Dolan is to show him empty seats at the garden... watch a few small market team games, half the arena is empty... if MSG ever got to that level u can be sure changes would be made... knowing Dolan tho he'd probably give tickets away just to pack the house & make it appear like fan attendance is just fine.
